Wivenhoe is excited to trade for a new car and no longer having the embarrassment of having an old, broken down vehicle. Spiffy asks him to take mischievous, accident-prone camper Norton home on his way to the car lot. Pruett is also tagging along on his day off. Norton puts the car in drive and totals it. They hitch a ride with Mahala May, Caprice and her campers on their way to town. As Wivenhoe and Pruett take Norton to his home, they find his parents gone and neighbors unwilling to look after the Dennis the Menace clone. Pruett leaves to run important errands, leaving Wivenhoe alone with Norton who keeps getting into trouble. Mahala May helps out as the three go to Smilin' Miles car lot "for miles of smiles". As he causes comical calamities, Norton may come through when it counts. But, how long can it last?
