Way crazy episode with a sci fi slant. You have to admit it's original, likely inspired by all those 50s cult thrillers with GROWING monsters!
It all starts out rather harmlessly with lovesick Zelda chasing Dobie (again), now telling him that WHEN they get married they'll settle down on a farm and raise chickens? Huh? This prompts Dobie to get into a biology class, Zelda naturally assisting him in a new "chicken" experiment. The big question proposed by teacher Mr. Millfloss (Lee Goodman) is what exactly will happen to the chickens when they are injected separately with male and female hormones???
This project requires Dobie to take home some "experimental" chickens, hiding them in back of the store... and the INSANITY begins... Herb starts hearing rooster sounds! More rooster sounds!
He thinks he's losing his mind --until Dobie's GIGANTIC hormone monster chicken bursts through the door and scares the wits out of everybody!

You have to admit, the chicken is kind of scary at the beginning, struttin' its stuff around the store while everybody runs for cover! 100 percent Outrageous, and the production crew did a fairly good job in bringing the monster chicken to life!
Great support from popular veteran actress Marjorie Bennett as Blossom. The Australian born actress was a staple in sitcoms and some classic movies for years, and appeared ten times on the show. Lee Goodman, by the way, later changed careers and became a tv producer.
