Online destinations are vying for ad dollars this Upfront season, but they aren’t the only ones courting advertisers with web original programming. Bet today announced its new slate of shows for its 2011 Upfront presentation tonight in New York City. In addition to the Viacom-owned network’s staples - like the Hip Hop Awards and 106 and Park - Bet is adding a handful of web sereis to its roster, many of which were created, written by, and star individuals who Tubefilter readers will find familiar. The shows include: Lenox Avenue - A dramatic web series that tells the story of three male friends in their mid-twenties, who are good dressers and busy navigating the rough terrain of love, relationships and careers. Set in Harlem, this series is produced by Al Thompson’s (Johnny B. Homeless, The Royal Tenenbaums) ValDean Entertainment and features Thompson as Owen and Dorian Missick (Lucky Nember) as Sellars.

Time to turn off your ipod and take off your headphones. The “Rhyme Animal” web series is back. The award winning hip hop thrill series returns to the big screen at this year’s second annual Los Angeles Web Festival on March 26th. Created by filmmaker Jorge Rivera, the drama captures the struggle of an aspiring hip-hop DJ. Rivera will also be speaking at the LAWebFest at the festival’s, “10 Tips To Becoming a Better Web Series Writer Panel” that same day as well. Continuing on with featuring black web series…the last one, and still currently being feature, Issa Rae’s Awkward Black Girl series, has been well-received by you all, and is apparently doing very well across the web.
Here’s another… this one is called Rhyme Animal. I forget who sent this to me… but its synopsis reads: “an ambitious hip-hop DJ rides the coattails of an up-and-coming rapper. One problem: the rapper might also be a cannibalistic serial killer.”
How’s that for a plotline?
Its stars Al Thompson, Craig “muMs” Grant and Bridget Barkan; written by Jorge Rivera, Aaron F. Schnore, Billy Fox; and directed by Phil Roc.
Watch below the first 3 episodes of the HBO/Nyilff Pitch-a-thon 2009 winner, and Mabff 2010 Winner for Best Web Series; and as with the last time, your comments will determine whether we continue to feature the series on this site, so have at...
