B and B investigate the remains of a guy buried in concrete, who may be a notorious contract killer. Turns out the contract killer is very much alive, and various folks, not all nice, are looking for him. Brennan's long-missing dad (Ryan O'Neal), a wanted man, unexpectedly turns up and ends up helping her with the case. Booth takes a serious beating at the hands of some bad guys in this one. He also has a whopper of a toothache. And on top of everything else, he must deal with a wily bounty hunter, who happens to be very sexy. CONCRETE is worth catching just to see Booth take a whupping. And to see B and B harmonize on an old Poco tune. Oh, and the bounty hunter really is a babe.

Poco!

Warning: Spoilers
I'll have to disagree with marcelfrancehd on this episode.

While Bones is an entertaining series, though not my favorite, incorporating Poco's "Keep On Tryin'" into the episode was masterful. There are enough of us Poconuts around to appreciate it. It does make sense than Bones's father would be the right age to be a Poco fan--and no doubt someone older in Booth's life was, too.

And calling Poco "indie" is hugely inaccurate: the band was founded in 1968 from the ashes of Buffalo Springfield, as was CSN (and Y: though Neil was in the Springfield, it took him a while to make it a quartet). The band was only moderately famous, but lumping it in with 1990s alternative rock (which I love) totally misses their place in the world.

Not too long after writing and singing lead vocals on this song, Timothy B. Schmit left Poco for The Eagles, replacing the late Randy Meisner (also Schmit's predecessor at Poco).

All in all, it gave Bones, her father, and Booth a level of personality most TV shows don't offer their characters.

This show sometimes...

Warning: Spoilers
I like this show but the production choices they make sometimes are so strange. Why choose a indie folk song in a montage of Bones saving Booth from being horribly tortured. And then they sing the same song 2 minutes later. I'm only in season 2 but so far the show handles the high drama moments in the strangest ways. It's a great show but I don't understand their choices sometimes lol.

Who isn't atleast a little afraid of the dentist? Ofcourse she's going to require the whole slab of concrete not cement to be shipped to the Jeffersonian Booth you should know this by now. Yyayy Max is back! Don't always love his methods but really enjoy his character. Haha well the bounty hunter WAS with Booth. Poor Booth in this episode he is having a terrible no good very bad day. Angela proving this whole episode that she is the most awesome best friend. Can't say I wouldn't lie to the FBI to save Booth's life. the moment in the diner at the end was sweet.

Loved: that Brennen let her dad escape at the end! And that Booths tooth got knocked out so it didn't hurt anymore. Tooth pain is the WORST!

Hated: Booth driving his car on the airplane field. It gave me so much anxiety lol.

Solide Episode, but........

Warning: Spoilers
A body is found submerged in concrete (not cement which is an ingredient in concrete. Booth has toothache and is being cowardly about it. Ryan O'Neal shows up again as Brennan's father and he recognizes that she is in the middle of something dangerous. The man found buried has been murdered in an utterly brutal way. Although there is much more to the story. Booth gets mixed up with a plethora of bounty hunters, two of them sociopaths, and he ends up being tortured. The but in the title above involves the incredible reach the squints have to make to find where Booth is being held. Let's say it would be darned near impossible.

"Cement is an ingredient in concrete"

Warning: Spoilers
I chose that quote for the review title in hopes that I might actually remember it some day.

In the B plot, we have furthering character development between Brennan and her father. She is incredibly hesitant to trust him, but after Booth looks into Max's record, he states that, "in the Old West, he would have been considered a hero" for the types of people he killed. Max keeps showing up until his presence becomes useful. Father and daughter team up to save the day.

In the main plot, the Jeffersonian team finds that murder victim, "Cement Head," was paralyzed with a sharp implement being either wiggled or waggled in the base of the spine, then had concrete poured over him while still alive. I'm not easily nauseated, but the concrete-shaped pieces of the upper respiratory system are unsettling. Now retired hit man, Hugh Kennedy, who killed our victim, gets the drop on Booth and ties him up, but courteously leaves Booth's gun since he'd get in trouble with the FBI if he lost it. Unfortunately, mobster Gallagher comes upon Booth before Brennan and dad get there, and Booth is taken, tortured and beaten up badly. Booth is saved moments before certain death, the current bad guy gets taken in by the authorities, and the actual murderer slips off into the night.
