Business lawyer Max Falin, son of Stockholm tycoon Olaf, is about to marry Hilla Svensson, heir of grandmother Emma Svensson's cartographic publishing firm. On the family estate to plan the wedding, Hilla meets Emma's secretary-butler Christian's adventurous orphaned great nephew Fredrik, a commercial navy officer she knew as a child, and the soon grow into an affair, to Emma's snobbish horror. Christian is torn between conflicting loyalties, Emma hides her major medical problems dictating haste with the succession even for him and Hilla.

In Stockholm Per Nordenfeldt visits the cheese shop of Hanna Andersson to propose her some elk cheese that he is producing on his farm.Later Anna goes to the railway station to meet her husband and she is surprised to see him kissing another woman.When Sten returns to their apartment,Hanna says him that she needs to go away for a while,she will join her daughter who went on excursion and the bus has fallen in a lake.On the road she gets lost and a old man who was fishing speaks a little with her and shows her the way to the town at Lilja-lake.There she says to Lina ,her daughter ,that she would like to stay for some days in this place (she doesn't mention what happened between her and Sten).Then they will stay at a hotel managed by Greta Hamsun, a banker who has opened also a restaurant. Hanna and Lina have a walk,they visit the elk farm and speak a little with Per.In the night they have supper in Greta's restaurant, where Greta says that she is a tenant of Per and Henrike.After the supper Hanna walks to Per's farm to spend a moment with him.On the next day Hanna goes to the forest and meets again the old main who offers her to stay for a moment in his cabin.They speak about the life,but he doesn't tell her that he is the father of Per.Besides Hanna meets Henrike who presents herself as Nordenfelt.Hanna is deceived thinking that Per was married.Henrike wants that Per pays more attention to Greta,but he feels so good with Hanna.And surprise, Sten Andresson has appeared in the town and wants to talk with Hanna about their future.

Bank official Jonas Nyvell returns after years abroad to Stockholm, estranged from his late wife's family. Daughter Lily (11) insists to visit for grandmother's funeral to see grandpa Hakon Petterson, who refuses to see Jonas whom he irrationally blames for his daughter's fatal accident. Lily's aunt Sirka nevertheless welcomes both warmly and visits Jonas, who moved to a hotel so Lily can stay the holiday at Hakon's, spends time with him and they fall in love. Sirka ignores the dire financial situation of the family's glass manufacture, where she's creative director while her father and his devoted PA Berit, sister of Sirka's ex Michael, manage the business side, but when he makes clear to see no romantic future, she resorts to desperate measures which endanger everyone, and the firm.
