Another nicely handled outer space themed episode details the efforts of astronomers and members of the SETI team(Search for Extra-terrestrial Intelligence) to locate signs of alien life in the universe, both by sending out radio signals into space, in hopes of being intercepted by intelligent life, who will hopefully send back their own recognition signal, to make contact with our planet. Scientists debate whether or not such an endeavor is worthwhile, or a waste of time and money. Interesting how similar in premise this is to astronomer and author Carl Sagan's own novel 'Contact', which later became a successful film in 1997.

One of the better episodes.!

Warning: Spoilers
One of the better episodes. The information is dated! However one learns much about space and the countless stars, systems, theories. The spectrum of radio to listen as a ear to space is fascinating!Transmitting a message to space sends many possibilities? Is it possible for someone out there to even understand our spectrum of message. What if there is life out there can whatever understand. What if it is a planet of Cockatoos? What is communication is breached. Leonard Nimoy narrations and speculation with experts creates a narrative of speculation and wonder. Eight out of ten stars on the star chart. Not bad for a twenty minute show!

In Search of... "A Call from Space" (1977)

The twelfth episode in the series takes a look at the various satellites in outer space and whether or not they're able to send off messages to other life. We also take a look at dolphins and whether or not they're trying to communicate with us.

This series certainly has a lot of fans and while I think some of the episodes have been good, there's no question that others haven't been nearly as impressive or entertaining. This here is one of the less interesting ones as the story itself is just told in such a bland way that you really don't learn too much. Yes, it asks the question on if we can communicate with other life but there's just not too many interesting stories or facts here to make the episode better.

Episode: C+
