The recent movie binging craze is fodder for fans of Lesbian Cinema, as this Girlfriends film kicks off two different series: the GIRLS IN WHITE tales of lesbian coming-out parties in the fictional town of Thornhill and THE THORNHILL DIARIES, a kind of groundbreaking meta-series which unites various other series in a mythos about this lesbian parallel world on the Left Coast.
Veronica Snow, a lesbian video icon and spokesperson for the label, came up with the storyline, but typically the director of GIW is uncredited. Series is not on-going, but the Diaries are.
I love the label's practice of a DVD cover photo for new series like this one (or LESBIAN LEGAL for example) to show the ensemble cast in a single shot, even though they have different episodes to be featured in. Snow herself stars her as an older lesbian much in love with Brea Bennett, and who wouldn't be? Brea (who in my mind I had confused with Bree Daniels, a starlet who competes with her for the same roles) is a perfect young woman, as beautiful as can be and seemingly without physical defect.
When the big party occurs, the other women make catty remarks about Snow, and at least one, Emilianna, makes a pass at the young girl. It is Snow, however, who gets to bed her, in a tasteful and glamorous opening vignette.
Second match-up has the exotic European star of many a Girlfriends saga, Nicole, paired with young Kelly. Finale is something of a letdown in that instead of furthering the plot line and gaining momentum for a new series, the GIrlfriends honchos stray off into the world of kink, for sheer shock value.
