The beginning of a cover-up?
mark.waltz28 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Roger and "Liz" (Joan Bennett's Elizabeth) have it out as the fallout from the revelation of David having tampered with Roger's car, and it becomes very apparent that Elizabeth intends to keep David protected. Her devotion to her nephew means that Roger must live with the fear that David's hatred might strike again. Elizabeth subtly indicates that Roger's harshness drove David to his actions, and when the constable shows up, Elizabeth continue use that against Rogers wishes. Her glare at him after the Constable leaves is unforgettable, causing Roger to tell her that she's protecting a monster. Like the young Caligula in "I Claudius", David seems capable of anything, and that creates more mystery in this moody, gothic soap.

Final fall-out from the 'bleeder valve' incident

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 32 involves more fall-out from the 'bleeder valve incident'. The story has been settled between the main players but Elizabeth shows up and has to have everything explained. Finally she and her husband come to an uneasy truce of sorts and the law is finally satisfied and the case closed. I enjoyed the simplicity of this episode although I hope that future episodes will begin to cover new ground as this storyline has been going on a long time now.

Some Rat Poison in My Coffee?

Warning: Spoilers
The storm subsides, but there is still a chill of fear at Collinwood. Roger (Louis Edmonds) lets Liz (Joan Bennett) know he is aware of the fact that his son tried to kill him. Liz reluctantly faces facts. Meanwhile, at the Collinsport police station, Carter (Michael Currie) has determined that the placement of fingerprints on the wrench makes David a suspect. Carter asks Bill Malloy (Frank Schofield) to share information about the Collins family. Roger wants Liz to consider sending David to a special school. Liz tells Carter she wants the case of the "bleeder valve" dropped...

Roger brings up wife Laura, institutionalized for as yet undisclosed reasons. Interestingly, Roger reminds Liz that Laura bore David close to eight months after marrying him. We are meant to consider Burke or Roger a possible father for David, at this point; this does not turn out to be a serious consideration, in the long run. This episode ends the car crash story, but Roger wisely considers David may attempt to kill him again. This was Michael Currie's last appearance as Sheriff Jonas Carter - the next big Collinsport crime would be investigated by Sheriff George Patterson...
