Fine biblical based episode examines the truth behind the legend of John The Baptist, second cousin of Jesus Christ, whom John would later baptize himself, and come to realize the true divinity of Christ, and becomes a true believer and follower. He could have had a privileged upbringing, but instead forsake it to wander the wilderness, learning about the world, and communing with god. He lived like a hermit, and subsisted on locusts and raw honey(sounds rough, but apparently contains all the nutrition one needs for good health!) Later ran afoul of royalty in the form of Salome, a beautiful but ruthless young woman who demanded poor John's head... making him the first Christian martyr.

Interesting episode! Not great, nothing special, but interesting. I like the biblical re-telling of John the Baptist. The reenactments are great. The actor played a believable John. The second part of John asks what happen after John's death? The first theory about were John's body lies is just conjecture. No hard facts. Interesting, but not compelling. Belief, faith and emotion are evident with the experts. Narration, filming and opinion is by the numbers. I did not mind the episode. Watched worse episodes. Not not on my favourite episode list either! A good retelling of the importance of John for the Christine world. Six out of ten.

In Search Of... "John the Baptist" (1980)
The story of John the Baptist is told in this mildly entertaining episode. After his story the focus turns to whether a collection of bones actually belong to him. We then hear the story of the research done to try and find his resting spot and bring his bones back to where they belong. Out of all the episodes in season four I'd argue that this one here has been the weakest so far but there's still plenty of entertainment to be had. There are some nice interviews with people giving you a clear idea of who John was and why he was so important. From here you also get a good debate on the collection of bones and whether or not they belong to John.
