State Visit
Prismark108 November 2023
Alf is incensed that the Russian premier called Britain a country that is no longer a first division power. It was reported in that socialist rag the Daily Mirror.

He is furious that Harold Wilson will put the Russian Prime Minister up in a fancy hotel like the Claridges at the taxpayers expense.

The Russian premier is making a state visit. Mike and Rita are happy about this, as it allows Wilson to chew the fat over the differences between both nations.

To Alf, Wilson is a communist and goes to Downing Street to protest against the visit.

There is also a detour as Alf and Mike discuss the Labour government giving up on the empire. Mike reminds him that countries such as Rhodesia unilaterally declared independence. Alf views Ian Smith as a patriot and not a traitor.

Then there is a hysterical bit as Alf tries to prove that the Queen is a direct descendant of god.

A good solid episode which highlighted then topical issues about the disintegration of the British empire and the Rhodesia problem.
