Dane Cook has landed a starring role on the pilot for "Next Caller Please," an NBC sitcom about a DJ at a satellite radio station who is perpetually unhappy that he has been paired with a feminist-minded co-host, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The pilot, intended to be shot single-camera style (similar to "The Office" and "Community"), would be the stand-up comedian's first starring role on a television series. His other television work includes the HBO stand-up comedy tour documentary series "Tourgasm," and a memorable guest starring role playing himself on "Louie."
Cook's main success has been as a stand-up comedian. His 2006 album "Retaliation" became one of the most successful stand-up albums of all time, and all four of his albums that have charted in the U.S., a rarity for a comedian. His film career includes starring roles in the comedies "Good Luck Chuck," "Employee of the Month" and "My Best Friend's Girl,...

NEW YORK -- The second annual edition of the Comedy Festival in Las Vegas, presented by HBO and AEG Live, will include Chris Rock, comedy legend Don Rickles, the Tourgasm gang led by Dane Cook, Kathy Griffin, Dave Attell, Louis CK, Mario Cantone, Joe Rogan, Jamie Kennedy and an adults-only late-night special hosted by Bob Saget. Rock will receive this year's Comedian Award, following first-year recipient Jerry Seinfeld, organizers said Thursday in unveiling the initial talent lineup for the November festival. The award honors those who have most influenced the art of comedy. The live, three-hour show Comic Relief will return to the festival, which has been expanded from three to five days and will be simulcast Nov. 18 on HBO and TBS. Even against the NBA Finals, the boys of Entourage got game. The HBO comedy series opened its third season with its biggest audience ever on Sunday at 10 p.m., reaching 2.7 million despite male-skewing competition on ABC from Game 2 of the NBA Finals. That's a big improvement over Entourage's second season premiere last year, which opened to just 1.6 million. The second season average was 1.9 million. Not as lucky at 10:30 p.m. was new comedy Lucky Louie, which dropped nearly half of the Entourage lead-in, grabbing 1.5 million. At 11 p.m., another new series, Dane Cook's Tourgasm, held onto 1.1 million. But HBO got better news from the third season premiere of Deadwood at 9 p.m., which returned with 2.4 million. That's down from last season's premiere haul of 2.8 million, but on par with the show's second-season average. Elsewhere in cable, Discovery Channel netted 2.3 million at 9 p.m. with its two-horu special: Krakatoa: Volcano of Destruction. Animal Planet perked up at 8 p.m. with the Meerkat Manor, which drew more households than any series premiere in its history.
