See this gorgeous film if you can!

I was able to view this film at the Pacific Film Archive of the Berkeley Art Museum as part of an African film festival.

My comment is that it is a sad comment on American society and its cheez-whizzy culture that we could never have films like this in America, films that are thoughtful and touching and hold the attention of children and adults alike, without resorting to chase scenes or other such contrivances. Or a film for American adults that tells a story without hitting you over the head?

"Un Amour d'Infant" is a perfect film, if you like drama that is realistic and unpretentious. What I remember most are close-ups of children holding hands, just the 2 hands touching each other and filling the screen. This is the type of visual dialogue which tells the story in this film, transcending all language barriers in its simplicity.

The combination of of realism and tenderness which characterizes "Un Amour d'infant" draws immediate comparison to Francois Truffaut, and Truffaut's kids.

I give this film an unqualified A+, and will go even further to add that there is absolutely NO graphic sex or violence and I would find it hard to believe that there is Anyone out there who would not enjoy this film.

The subtitles are minimal and did not pose any problem for my 8-yr-old, who also loved it, and asked if we could get the DVD (not at all likely). He would like to see it again.

Even if you only watch horror or action movies, you would have to have no feelings not to love this gentle children's love story. I wish this film could be released in USA, at least on DVD!
