"Covered my ASCII!" Warning: Spoilers
I can't believe they got away with that line, because Matrix is really saying ass, I mean let's face it! So the show is now focused on the mini story arc of Matrix, Ray, Andraia, and the pirate binome crew of The Saucy Mare as they journey through the highly dangerous, space-like realm that is the web in search of a way through to the system of Mainframe as well as hopefully locating the long-since vanished guardian Bob, who may be much closer than they think... For me personally this is kind of one part of the show's overall wonderful saga that isn't my favourite because it's so far removed from what to me really made the show special like the games, the viruses, and the strong drama that they both develop. It's still Reboot and as always is a lot of fun regardless, but to me this part of the story is just tone-wise very different. This is an improvement over the last episode though, and it does get the action moving faster in the new direction. And there are some awesome sights, like the titular Edge of Beyond, which is a gigantic chaotic tear in the fabric of the web surrounded by a graveyard of floating dead web creatures, and is a phenomenon that The Saucy Mare cannot safely pass through without first armouring itself in the very scales of those creatures, and it looks so cool and more advanced after it's all decked out! As does Ray when he displays his power to open portals and his skin turns metallic to protect him on the outside of the ship. Very Silver Surfer-like, right down to the board and the skill of passing through spacial dimensions! The odd, unwarranted, and rather unwanted love triangle thing is continuing on from last time, with Matrix's unreasonable jealousy towards Ray Tracer causing Andraia to storm off and investigate a weird purple brain-like pod which opens up in a very similar way to how the facehugger once leaped out of its egg onto John Hurt in Alien, and the newborn web creature bites her arm and drains her energy and part of her code, leaving her a flickering translucent figure quite similar to how Dot was damaged by the magnet way back in "The Quick and the Fed"! They must then hunt the creature down in order to try and restore her, which Ray first tries to do until he is attacked by another web creature that has a mysterious armoured figure on its back. It looks like the end for him when his board is recovered with a bite taken out of it, until it's revealed to an awestruck Matrix that he actually *is* the board on which he rides. I do like when the hard-edged Matrix shows his softer side as he feels guilty at the side of his girlfriend who is fading away and after earlier punching him in the face, when he begins to treat Ray with a little more respect after he saves him from certain doom in the swirling crimson abyss of a data storm! Matrix also tries with the help of a suit that the ship's crew makes for him, but encounters an entire clan of the dangerous web riders, which at this point it is unclear as to if they're friend or foe as they emerge and close in on the ship as the episode ends and like most of them, leaves you wanting more. Very different, but fun and not a bad one at all.
