Amazing Documentaries!
dragonfly_326 November 2006
These videos are so exciting that I think everyone should own them. (There are several DVDs and they are all equally good.) They portray much the world as it truly is. Raw, hurting, poor, and beautiful. If you want to see the world and it's people as they exist (instead of see it through the superficial eyes of the travel channel), this is your video series. My husband and I love traveling and missionary work, and these documentaries make our feet very itchy to get back on the road! They are extremely well edited, but raw. And the cinematography is incredible. A must see. In fact, I don't know how to convince you, but if I could...I would. There are trailers to see on the "travel the road" official website. Perhaps those will convince you.

Great show!

Great reality TV! I love the action and adventure these two guys experience as they enter unknown lands with backpacks and their Bible. I recently caught the episode when they walked into the depths of thick jungles somewhere in Asia and had to repeatedly remove leaches from their bodies. I also enjoyed watching the episode shot in Afghanistan with the American soldiers. The lands they travel are so diverse and their experiences are so raw and real. The edgy camera-shots make this show even more entertaining. I'd love to see this on MTV! Their programming is so predictable. MTV could use some off-the-beat and track programming.

Mission trip?
sgtmajhughes14 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, I am watching now nearly finished with one episode. No work for Christ at all just three kids traveling with a video camera spending money that people have given them for a "mission trip". Absolutely nothing in terms of doing Gods work but three, not well educated, kids, thinking they are some sort of Indiana Jones explorers. But here is the key, no translators, no communications with locals. So how is that mission work? They claim healing for a Korean woman with altitude sickness. But they couldn't speak to her. This is a total waste of time and I feel for the people that gave them money! A total joke! I checked spoiler simply because there is no work being done here nor do they know the bible.

Missionaries?
rdrfrm7 January 2022
I spent a year at a major Christian missionary School when I was younger- Columbia International University- and learned somewhat of the amount of preparedness that a foreign missionary requires- a solid grounding in the Scriptures through instruction, intensive study of the culture you are going to, support from numerous churches, participating in a mission organization for accountability, and the absolute necessity of setting a goal of establishing a Church so that one's fruit may abide. And these guys haven't done any of these things. And they're preaching in English to people who don't know the language. Being a light to the world is a serious matter, not something to do on a lark like this. This depiction of Christian missionary work is misleading. Young people who are considering missions are getting a very wrong impression. It's a travesty.

Painful to watch, even moreso given their naivete
What you essentially have here is two friends going on vacation and calling it a missionary trip. There is no preparation. There is no plan. There is no direction. Just hit the road and look for a destination along the way.

Sadly, they endeavor to lay this debacle at the feet of God and make Him the author of this mess. That's not atypical of the modern church's approach to evangelism where everyone is taught to drop "Bible bombs" hoping something connects. John 3:16.... POW!! John 3:16.... POW!!! John 3:16.... POW!!! Strafing runs for Jesus.

What makes this painful to watch is how clueless the audience is to the message. They go forth preaching in English --- as though that was the universal language and everyone understands it perfectly. You can see the confusion and mocking laughter on people's faces all throughout this documentary. One would think that, given the message's importance, they would take the time to make sure it's clearly understood. Nope.... Our vacation for Jesus is not going to be hindered by attempting to find a translator in advance. Clearly these two have never read 1 Corinthians 14:9-10.

I found this Documentary on DVD back in 2007 in a used CD shop in South Dakota. In 2009 I left America to become a missionary myself. I've been on the missions field for 15 years now... because I've invested my life into something I believe is of paramount importance. I've never been back to America, I will probably die here on foreign soil... like the honest missionaries who came before me. True missions work costs an investment of a life.... not a summer vacation.

These two.... invested little and took photos along the way, assuming that God would foot the bill of their travel. True evangelism isn't met by those seeking to profit from the documentary rights... just saying.
