Nice

Very nice and funny episode that contains a deep moral of sacrifice that is thrown away in the middle of the episode and the mrale becomes a daring adventure of cowardice and theft.

The golden era ends?

Warning: Spoilers
I loved the reference to Larry Hagman towards the end of this divisive episode that drew lots an lots of controversy amongst the Simpsons fans because of Homer's intransigence regarding his kidney donation for his father. From a legal perspective (yes really!), Homer could sue the hospital for battery because his kidney was removed without his consent. It's one for the law classes on torts for sure!

Anyway, this episode could be classed as pretty in the end of the golden era, which I count as the first ten years, although some big Simpsons fans may beg to differ which I respect for sure.

Sure, this episode isn't perfect but I guess any episode of The Simpsons is better than none.

Like i said before people love to hate on the Simpsons After the 9th season, fact is, this episode is great and Funny, if Homer refuse to give his kidney its because of fear and its normal, also because his dad was the worst dad ever with him. Its funny, stop overthink when you watch a sitcom episode !

Absolute rubbish!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is absolute drivel! What on earth is funny about Homer being a heartless moron for not stopping to allow his father to stop to go to the bathroom just because he doesn't want to miss part of one of his idiotic TV programs?!

All this episode goes to illustrate is that Homer is an utter coward! It might have made this episode funny if they took both of Homer's kidneys and put him on dialysis for the rest of his life! This episode is utter garbage and is another example of why this show should have been canceled long ago!

Points for stupidity 100/100 Points for plot 5/100

Disgusting

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is horrible, there is nothing funny or entertaining about a man refusing to give a kidney to save his Father's life. And he didn't even give the kidney in the end, he's tricked into it? Disgusting.

Jerkass Homer at his finest!
JigglypuffGuy22 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
How the hell is Homer making his father loose his kidneys and spending half of the episode trying to not save him supposed to be funny? It's not! It makes Homer this selfish, arrogant and sociopathic jerk who has no empathy towards anyone but himself!

Even if you ignore the atrocious plot, there aren't even that many funny jokes here, which sucks even harder because comedy is like this show's bread and butter.

One of the worst episodes of the "Golden Age" and one of the worst episodes of the entire series, do not watch this one, it sucks.

Not Even Slightly Funny

Due to Homer's negligence, Abe is going to need a kidney. Homer is the doner, but he runs off and refuses to follow through. I know it's an anything goes animated show, but the pure selfishness and lack of anything humorous makes this pretty unwatchable.

The Beginning of "Jerkass Homer"
hwy-0344615 February 2022
This marks the beginning of the end of the Golden Age. It didn't have to be this way but I guess this is what we are dealing with, the beginning of Jerkass Homer, which would plague the show for about 20 years.

This is what people are mad about? Really?
JQPbannana557830 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Homer is an asshole in the first half, but I don't think overall this episode is bad.

The first half of this episode Homer is a complete asshole, not letting Grandpa pee and then when he learns his kidneys have exploded he just brushes it off.

BUT when he learns his Dads about to die he immediately feels remorse and offers his own kidney. Later he tries to weasel his way out of it but not out of greed or malice, it's out of fear, the episode even has Homer sign a document saying he can't sue if the surgery goes horribly wrong, and when he runs away he feels extreme guilt and constantly talks about how he's worthless. Eventually his guilt overcomes his fear and he goes back to the hospital.

He struggles to even get through the front door but powers through and does it anyway.

If the episode ended there I'd probably give it a 7/10, because although the way the plot is kicked off is terrible and Homer is an unlikable asshole, I do think the second half that everyone hates really saves it... but then Homer runs away again, and needs to have the kidney taken by force so I lowered it to a 6/10... and then the episode kept going and Homer got mad at his dad for taking his kidney and yelled at him to give it back which lowers it to a 5. Homer also gropes Bart's kidney, the implication being that he's going to take it but that's just a dark joke to end off the episode, but even if I did take issue with it it wouldn't lower the score.

It's a shame this episode is so hated because it's really funny, and in total only 3 of its 20 minute runtime drag it down, but man those 3 minutes do so much damage to Homers character. I don't think it's EXTREMELY out of character, he's always been a jerk, but this was just a step too far. Still gets 5 stars because, again, it's really funny.

It is even more disgusting
arielsiere20 September 2022
Oh my god, this is when Jerkass Homer appears for the first time by not letting his grandpa, Abraham Simpson go to the bathroom so he can do his business, even Dr. Hibbert shows us a picture of an x-ray of the two kidneys of Abraham Simpson exploding, this episode makes me feel awkward and disgusting, even Jerkass Homer also appears in the episode Co-Dependents Day which was also a horrible episode, it also got hated by lots of people and fans from the show. If Homer Simpson letted his grandpa go to the bathroom then non of these things would have happened, it was the most disgusting, awkward and hard episode to sit through, man i feel bad for Grandpa Simpson who had to suffer this uneasy episode.
