Did Roger Ebert ever see this?
ericstevenson29 June 2018
Some people claim that this has the longest title of any "South Park" episode. Actually, the episode with the longest title is "The Mexican Staring Frog Of Southern Sri Lanka" also from this season. The funniest thing is that the title means absolutely nothing at all. Roger Ebert appears as a constellation for less than five seconds. The title was probably just meant to be a joke and nonsensical. The real plot is that a guy is hypnotizing people to go to his planetarium.

I did in fact go to a few of those on field trips when I was a kid. This episode features them dying out and seeing as how I haven't heard of them in years, they probably have died out at this point. There were still good jokes, but it wasn't one of the best episodes. I liked the design of the villain. You always make guest characters look more realistic to make them stand out more. I like the "Star Trek" references too. ***

Ebert Should Lay Off the Fatty Foods (#2.11)

Warning: Spoilers
A nice episode. Thee best part of it was Eric Cartman and his Cheesy Poofs commercial. This song just gets stuck in my head all the time. I love how his mom told him not to pick his nose and also how he gets rid of the poor hungry girl and her mom.

The planetarium story isn't as great but still pretty decent. I especially liked having Mr. Mackey in it. They added the whole his "Drugs are bad mmmkay". Which was hilarious. I also liked the two lsd hippies he met in his episode also being there an really enjoying the laser show.

The whole creepy idea of the planetarium hypnotizing kids to work there and the officer to be Elvis was actually very entertaining.

Good episode, but with a strange title
gangstahippie13 October 2008
The title of this episode is called "Roger Ebert Should Lay Off The Fatty Foods".It's a strange title since Roger Ebert is only mentioned once in the episode and has no significance to the plot. The plot has the children going on a field trip to the planetarium. The owner however has some hypnosis device which makes children want to go back and visit or work in the planetarium. His plan is to make everyone in South Park love the planetarium, but Stan and Kyle are on his case and try to stop him.Meanwhile, instead of going on the field trip, Cartman ditches and auditions for a cheesy poofs commerical. He is bad yet so is everyone else and he gets to be on TV.Only no one is really watching because they are all at the planetarium. This is a pretty funny and good South Park episode...but with a strange title!

Early South Park Classic -- Raw Satire And Dagger Of The Mind
Dan1863Sickles24 June 2014
This episode is the best example of "raw" early SOUTH PARK. They start with a classic STAR TREK episode, "Dagger Of The Mind," and basically act out the entire plot, including legendary Star Trek bits like the "Vulcan Mind Meld." Stan and Kyle actually quote the episode word for word at the end, complete with Shatner diction. "Stan, can you imagine -- a mind -- drained by that thing." And Officer Barbrady, for no particular reason, is hypnotized into believing he is Elvis Presley, complete with the worst Elvis imitation ever. "Okay, man, okay. I'm the King! I'm the King!" Why this episode works so well is that it feels very homegrown and not at all put on -- just a bunch of guys goofing on a STAR TREK classic that every television watcher in America knows by heart.

If SOUTH PARK was the Beatles, this episode would be "Love Me Do."

"I love cheesy poofs, you love cheesy poofs, if we didn't eat cheesy poofs we'd be... lame"
RainDogJr27 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I decided to watch some old South Park episodes on DVD and I began with this one pretty much because by reading the little summary from the Season 2 DVD I remembered that guy who can't pronounce planetarium. That guy's name is Dr. Adams and two simple things can distinguish him: he's the as***** that the boy will try to stop and he has a bone disease which impedes his pronunciation of the t in planetarium, certainly this last fact is hilarious. But actually only Stan and Kyle will try to stop this madman since Kenny dies and Cartman is in his own way to be the star of the new TV commercial of Cheesy Poofs but certainly both Kenny and Cartman helped since Kenny's death was the brutal prove that Dr. Adams was a f****** madman and Cartman practically saved the day, he was the hero!

"Roger Ebert Should Lay Off the Fatty Foods" is not one of my personal favourites South Park episodes but as most it is very good and it contains really hilarious and memorable stuff. The evil plan of Dr. Adams is quite funny since now a lot of South Park residents (including Chef!) are so in love with the planetarium (for sure some constellations are great!) that now they are slaves of the planetarium. The appearance of the King of Rock n' Roll Officer Barbrady is just hilarious and Cartman delivers also great stuff mostly once we finally watch the commercial on TV, pretty lame for Cartman we thought but he just f****** loved his appearance on TV. Cartman won the Cheesy Poofs contest because of the planetarium, didn't had an audience because of the planetarium and he ended with the planetarium. Also check the kid who sings during the finals the song Bingo, a hilarious moment.

Roger Ebert Should Review My Review
RicketyCricketImposter17 December 2021
Maybe my least favorite episode of the season, though I can't say for sure. It's just really really forgettable for me honestly. I don't know why, there's just not much going on. 6.9.

Top 5 Episode in my opinion. Totally Killer
austinshaw-9540514 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
"I have a bone disease which impedes my ability to pronounce the 't' in plane-arium." Such a classic early South Park with plenty of laughs. From Mr. Mackey's therapy sessions to Stan and Kyle being responsible for killing Kenny, there's a lot happening. Cartman delivers an excellent performance for the Cheesy Poofs commercial after tricking a poor family into skipping the tryouts to go get some free bread. "Sike!"

I know this episode isn't the most popular and some people could argue it's not even one of the best from season 2, but I beg to differ. The two stars forming the constellation "the crusades" gets me every time. And how can you not love the two hippies being the only ones who actually enjoy the planetarium while "totally tripping." This episode is totally killer. Thank you South Park for always being there.
