Interesting, but ...

This is an interesting episode, _trying_ to explain how "Venus Flytrap" came about, but it is full of holes and lackluster performances. A couple of the biggest holes: 1) Andy knows Venus' real name, but the WKRP history has Andy NOT knowing his real name until episode 18 of the first season; 2) Les shows off his office, including the yellow tape which shows where walls will be one day, but the yellow tape didn't appear until episode 10 of the first season. As for performance, they recreate Johnny's switch over to rock-and-roll, but it doesn't have any of the energy or excitement of the original effort.

One interesting note, in the recently released DVD set, in the pilot episode they removed the part where mama Carlson, just before she leaves, is saying she'll go along with things for now but "nothing strange, nothing weird" just before Venus walks in. That phrase is left in on the DVDs here when they recreated the "mama" sequence with Carol Bruce in place of Sylvia Sidney.
