Excellent!

This episode one of the best Simpsons episodes I've ever seen. After the celebration of "Love Day" (A feast invented by Costingtons), Homer has to take out a lot of garbage. On his way he has a conflict with the garbage men. After this, they decide not to take the Simpsons trash anymore. Homer has a crazy idea: He wants to become the next sanitation commissioner. A very funny episode with U2 as guest stars. And the "Garbagemen can" song was marvelous too. Steve Martin as Ray Patterson in another guest role. Another enemy for Homer! A great fun for everyone!

9 of 10 Stars!

Homer Enters Politics
Hitchcoc19 August 2022
When Homer runs for Sanitation Commissioner, he wins because he makes empty promises to everyone. Then his solution is to simply spend all the money he has in one month, leaving the commission bankrupt. But he has a secret plan with some pretty dramatic results. A good take on campaign promises with nothing holding them up.

Trash of the titans is a very good Simpsons episode and it is also their 200th episode and it deserved the Emmy award as well, anyway it starts off with a the store Costingtons trying to come up with a new holiday to make more money and and they come up with a thing called Love Day,and the Simpsons all celebrate it and give each other stupid cheap presents and when they through all the presents in the bin they discover their bin is full to the top and the next morning Homer has to take out the trash but discovers that he was too late for the garbage men and makes a complaint and then the garbage men cut their service and then Homer decides to run for sanitation commissioner against Ray Patterson (voiced by Steve Martin)and Homer ends up advertising for himself at a U2 concert (also starring U2)and wins for making a saying "cant someone else do it"and saying that the garbage men will do stuff like waxing your car.

One of my favourite episodes of the show ever, and the 200th no less.

Right from the couch gag this episode is hysterical, the joke rate is phenomenal all the way through.

With great guest turns from Steve Martin and Bono, along with some classic Homer moments, this episode is an absolute joy.

A perfect encapsulation of the 2016 election-- 18 years before it happened!

Warning: Spoilers
Homer gets angry at his garbagemen and to exact vengeance, decides to run for sanitation commissioner. He promises voters the moon in his bid to win the election. His opponent, Ray Patterson, offers only competence and experience. Of course, the booboisie voters choose Homer, who proceeds to make a perfect hash of it. Disaster ensues.

When asked to return, the former commissioner (Steve Martin) responds, "It's so gratifying to leave you wallowing in the mess you made. You're screwed. Thank you. Bye." No losing candidate has said it better.

Probably the best season 9 episode and solid evidence that The Simpsons golden age extended beyond season 8.

Nobody does political satire better than the Simpsons. They can even predict the future.

I wish garbage men were like that in real life

Without bankrupting a town of course, that would be so cool.

It'd be cool if another department in a town was like that and all over the top.

I really liked this episode it was so funny.

-1 Star for a celebrity reference.

Celebrity references are bad but this one doesn't mess with the plot too badly.

Love Day!

Warning: Spoilers
I loved the intro where the nefarious corporate executives create a new public holiday for profits galore, so it's Love Day, and it's hilarious! It really goes to the nature of holiday celebrations, and I loved the I'm Sir-A-Lot the huggable bear.

Anyway, it's Homer against City Hall, and guess who wins?

Anyway, U2 make a hilarious guest appearance, and when he gate crashes the backstage production room, that was more than hilarious with his impersonation of an Irishman with a sack of potatoes, and the "Kojak" jibe for sure.

Steve Martin of L. A. Story voices Ray Patterson, who is defeated by Homer for Sanitation Commissioner.

The Mr Bunny scene reminded me of Poltergeist.

All those in favour of horse whipping ...

Homer runs for a local public office.

This is a classic episode with consistently strong humour and character moments.

Homer is used brilliantly by the writers as he goes on hilarious crusade that destroys everything and everyone in his path, including himself. For me there is one excellent punchline after another both in the dialogue and visuals. The political satire is superb as ever and rings true in life, especially in the behaviour of voters in certain countries throughout the past ten years.

The writers also include one of the best pieces of social and economic satire of all time, as we see the greedy corporations plotting 'Love Day' and the gullible masses (embodied by the Simpson family) falling for it.
