Trivia

The joke in which Ray Patterson walks into the town meeting to the theme from Sanford and Son (1972), insults the audience, then exits to the same tune was based on a real event involving Redd Foxx. In 1975, while performing in Vegas, Foxx was scheduled do a 3am stand-up act. Arriving an hour late, he walked out to his famous theme, saw that there were only a handful of people in the audience, and walked off stage. The orchestra, at a loss for what to do, played the theme again as he stormed out. See more »

Quotes

Costingtons Manager: Okay, people, we need to cook up a new holiday for the summer. Something with gifts, cards, assorted gougeables.
Costingtons Woman: How about something religious? We had great penetration last spring with Christmas Two.
Costingtons Man: Oh, I know. Spendover, like Passover, less talk, more presents.
[Everyone starts talking at once]
Costingtons Manager: No, no, no! No, it's gotta be warm and fuzzy. Some like, um, "Love Day", but not so lame.
[cut to the Simpsons home several days later]
Marge Simpson: Happy Love Day, everyone!
Lisa Simpson: Come on, Mom, The stores just invented ...

Excellent!
10 May 2006 | by (Austria) – See all my reviews

This episode one of the best Simpsons episodes I've ever seen. After the celebration of "Love Day" (A feast invented by Costingtons), Homer has to take out a lot of garbage. On his way he has a conflict with the garbage men. After this, they decide not to take the Simpsons trash anymore. Homer has a crazy idea: He wants to become the next sanitation commissioner. A very funny episode with U2 as guest stars. And the "Garbagemen can" song was marvelous too. Steve Martin as Ray Patterson in another guest role. Another enemy for Homer! A great fun for everyone!

9 of 10 Stars!
