Excellent episode.

This is the Simpsons at their greatest. There must be at least 20 laugh out loud moments throughout and of course, the famous "boogeyman" scene is hilarious! 10/10

Gambling Problem

The economy Springfield is on the ropes, so the powers that be decide to build a casino. Of course, Burns is the only one who has the capital to do this. This leads to corruption, crime, and prostitution. Also Marge becomes addicted to slot machines. Burns becomes Howard Hughes. There's much more including Robert Goulet performing at Bart's mini-casino.

Warning: Spoilers
This is an absolutely fantastic episode from season 5. There's so much to rave about when it comes to this episode. Joke after joke hits just the right note. Plenty of parodies here. From Mr. Burns' Howard Hughes' impression to the Siegfried & Roy clones. Then you've got Krusty's hilarious bit for adults only.

The episode itself starts with the declining economy in Springfield. The town decides to legalize gambling as a way to increase revenue. Mr. Burns promptly builds the first casino, named Mr. Burns' Casino. Homer gets a job there which precipitates Marge going there. She quickly becomes addicted to the slot machines.

There are so many things to love about this episode. It's one of the best from season 5. Robert Goulet is brilliant in his self-effacing guest appearance as part of Bart's subplot where Bart opens a casino in his treehouse. That provides another hilarious moment with Milhouse's magic act. Another great moment in the episode comes directly after that when Rain Man comes to the casino. Then you've got Homer's bogeyman scare.

The writing is crisp and cutting. The plot itself is excellent. This episode does a really good job of weaving together many different plot points.

BOGEYMAN!!!

Springfield legalises gambling to boost its economic growth.

This very funny episode with a great concept and strong character humour.

The idea of Springfield taking this quite drastic step to get back to economic boom time is a great satire of the type of dismal small town that I come from. I love the start and all the build up to the casino.

The humour increases when Springfield's residents, particularly the Simpsons, get into the gambling culture. Bart having his own casino and booking Robert Goulet is superb. Lisa and Ralph dressed as states is hilarious. Plus the Howard Hughes parody involving Mr Burns is especially good.

Warning: Spoilers
$pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling) is from season five, and one hallmark of The Simpsons is its connection with the issues of the day and beyond, because $pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling) debuted in 1993 (just before Christmas) and deals with gambling addiction at the time, and now it's more prevalent than ever, with online gambling running amok, with an NBA player even being suspended for life for his role in organized gambling, so definitely $pringfield (Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Legalized Gambling) speaks to the time.
