Jud Strunk performs his hit song "Daisy a Day" in this edition of "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In"
tavm4 March 2020
The two young stars Dan and Dick intro at the beginning of this particular show are Meredith Baxter and David Birney who were then in the controversial hit TV comedy series "Bridget Loves Bernie" as it happened to be about a Jewish man married to an Irish Catholic woman and the complications between their families about that. Also appearing were Rip Taylor doing over-the-top jokes about his toupee, Slappy White in his last appearance on the show, and the return of former regular Jo Anne Worley who previously guested on the 100th ep of this show. She's as funny as always especially when playing a cigarette girl serving Dick Martin and Ruth Buzzi. During this whole season, I haven't found anything Jud Strunk was doing or saying funny (though in a sketch in this ep, he proposes to some women and gets a familiar line that hadn't been heard in the show in years that's a highlight) but in this edition, he performs his hit song "Daisy a Day" which was not a novelty tune but a more touching one about this man and his wife through the years. And it seemed to not be him miming to his recording since the arrangement sounded a little different. As for Meredith and David, they did some amusing skits with each other and with some of the cast members though the material was uneven at best. Still, this was a pretty entertaining ep of "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In". P.S. After "Bridget Loves Bernie" ended after its only season (because of the controversy that surrounded it despite its hit status), Baxter and Birney wed in real life resulting in Meredith hyphenating her last name to his professionally at least until after their divorce in 1990...
