THE RIFLEMAN – Deadly Image – 1962
This is the 132nd episode of the 1958 to 1963 western series, THE RIFLEMAN. Over the course of 168 episodes we follow the life of Lucas McCain and his son, Mark. They have moved to the small western town of North Fork where they hope to start a new life. Chuck Connors headlines the series with Johnny Crawford as his son. Connors is a world class hand with a Winchester rifle which of course ends up getting him in no end of trouble.
Local rancher Robert Bice is out riding fence with a ranch hand. They come across the remains of a butchered cow on the trail. They track further and come up on two men cooking up the beef at a campfire. Bice asks what the hell is going on. A man who looks like Chuck Connors gets up and fires at Bice and his man. Bice manages to escape but his man is killed.
Bice roars into North Fork to see Sheriff Paul Fix and report the murder. They are soon joined by Chuck Connors and his boy, Johnny Crawford. Bice accuses Connors of murdering his man. Needless to say Connors denies the charge. The closer Bice looks at Connors the more differences he now sees between Connors and the man who killed his hired hand. Bice realizes that Connors is not the killer.
Connors and his boy ride off back to their ranch. That evening, the look alike rides into North Fork with his partner, Leonard Stone. The two are soon causing trouble at the bar. Sheriff Fix is summoned but is clobbered by the Connors double.
To cut to the quick, there is a showdown between Connors and his doppelganger. Fists and guns are used to decide the issue.
By this time in the series, they seem to be running out of original story material and where reusing old story lines.
