James Onedin is a selfish self serving moneygrubber and his wife Anne was right to leave him. He is an ugly man with no lips and his rotten unchariyable disposition makes him all the uglier. No woman should be treated the way he treats her, but it was all too common back then. This episode does a fine job giving glimpses into the true House of Humanity. The poor working themselves into early graves while the landed gentry rake in profits hand over fist. This period drama is well done and quite surely it lasted 8 seasons due to all the centuries of rich history of British Navy and seafaring wealth. Good passtime if you're bored with modern drivel.
