"This is worse than trying to shoe a horse!"

Warning: Spoilers
Its nearly time for the annual Busman's Ball. This year, instead of a conjurer, the lads want a stripper, and have one in mind, the delectable Sandra. Blakey rejects the idea, but relents when Jack informs him that unless Sandra gets to strut her stuff, the busmen will boycott the ball.

Arthur announces he will not attend, but changes his mind when he finds out that Sandra will be appearing.

Stan and Arthur collaborate to fix Olive's dress in time for the ball. Needless to say, it is not an easy job, and involves the use of a dressmaker's dummy which is in no way shaped like Olive...

It was inevitable that the lovely Wendy Richard would turn up in 'On The Buses' at some point. Before she became a human cannonball, before she became 'Miss Brahms' of 'Are You Being Served?', she was clippie Elsie. Its not much of a role, frankly, and is not pivotal to the story. An actress of her calibre deserved better.

The episode gets off to a good start with Stan and Jack holding Blakey to ransom, but gets sidetracked with the hoo-haa over Olive's dress, and becomes a little tiresome. Still, there's some fun to be had over Stan's attempts to slip a girdle on the dressmaker's dummy.

Funniest moment - Olive emerging tearful from the Ball. After the stripper's knickers landed in her lap, the busmen piled on top of her to get it! ( The lucky bloke with the garment has to take it back to Sandra. No wonder Stan and Jack were so keen to book her! ). Stan is the man on this occasion, making this probably the only 'On The Buses' episode to end with him getting the girl!

Another cracking episode.

It's the annual busman's ball, Blakey is keen to hire a magician for the entertainment, Stan and Jack would prefer a stripper. Olive is keen to alter her dress from the previous year's ball.

Poor Olive, she was so often the fall guy, but Karen was truly so lovely and wonderful. Here she's once again the figure of fun, but we do get to see a little tenderness from Arthur.

Funniest scene had to be the sequences with the mannequin, very funny. Yet another very good episode from this wonderful fifth series.

It's a very small role for Wendy Richard, a year after this she'd land her famous role as Miss Brahms in Are you being served.

Is this turning out to be the best series so far?

8/10.

Miss Brahms from "Are YOu Being Served?"

Warning: Spoilers
Yes, Wendy Richard from "Are YOu Being Served?" is in this episode, ever so briefly, but obviously it is her.

Richard, of course, appeared on "Dad's Army" as well, but she will always be known to the American audience as the lovely who went up against the tank known as Slocum. And quite held her own.

Blake is opposed to a stripper at the ball, but they get one there anyway.

A lot of strange goings-on with Arthur and Stan trying to measure Olive's dress, or was this the one where they mis-handle that clothes dummy? Can't recall now.

In the end, Olive gets the biggest laugh when the stripper tosses off her knickers and they land in Olive's lap.

the man who had the bloomers would get to see the lovely stripper backstage, so every guy in the room tore after Olive.

What a sight to see that girl all flustered like that at the end.

Stan didn't follow Olive, Arthur and Mum home tho.

He had the knickers.
