The Everett kids each present Nanny (Juliet Mills) with gifts in what they deem Nanny Appreciation Day, a monthly event occurring on the first Saturday. Butch (Trent Lehman) enters a fishing contest to pay for the $5 owed on a bracelet he gifted to Nanny. He reels in a large fish that he and his brother Hal (David Doremus) know would win the contest, but it doesn't begin until the next day. The decide to take it home until they figure what to do. Meanwhile, the professor (Richard Long) tells student Jim Swanton (Richard Gates) he will think about an extension on his research paper, knowing what the effect of not doing so would be for him. In both dilemmas the Everetts must wrestle with the concept of time. Nanny's advice is to never discount the unknown factor.
