Sunflower , Tree , Frog : [singing] This day has really been the best./It certainly passed every test./From north to south, and east to west,/It's been a perfect day./This day has really been unique./The wind and trees played hide and seek./The sun and clouds danced cheek to cheek./It's been a perfect day.
Sunflower : [singing] It's been a good day for a flower.
Tree : [singing] It's been a good day for a tree.
Frog : [singing] It's been a good day for a frog on a toadstool.
Sunflower , Tree , Frog : [singing] It's been a good day for me./this day has really been quite nice./The temperature took our advice./If you don't mind, we'll say it twice./It's been a perfect day./It's been a positively, absolutely perfect day.

Tree : Josephine, I have a surprise for you.
Josephine : What is it?
Tree : I've been growing lots of extra leaves. Look up on top. I've been saving them for my special giraffe.
Josephine : Oh, Tree, can't you see? I'm not able to reach the leaves on the top anymore.
Tree : What happened? Did I grow too much?
Josephine : No. No! I'm the problem.
Tree : What's the matter?
Josephine : I didn't grow enough.
Sunflower : You look awful nice to me.
Butterfly , Bird , Bee : And to Butterfly, Bird, and Bee.
Frog : We don't care how you look, Josephine.
Josephine : Well, I care, and I don't like the way I look. My neck is short, and I'm small and... ugly!
[bursts into tears]
Tree , Sunflower , Frog , Butterfly , Bird , Bee : Ugly?
Josephine : [sobbing] Yes, I'm just ugly. In fact, I don't know why all of you would even want to be talking with me.
Tree : Ah, Josephine. We've always liked you.
Sunflower : Ever since you were a little giraffe.
Josephine : But I'm still little. Everybody else is twice as big as I am. I'm exactly the size I was a year ago.
Sunflower : Have you tried thinking tall, Josephine? When I was growing up next to Tree, I used to think I'm getting higher and higher, and I got up here. Didn't I, Tree.
Tree : You sure did, Sunflower.
Josephine : Thinking's not going to do it for me, and wishing's not going to do it for me. Not even the kinds of wishes my friend Hazel said to wish. Nothing works.
[starts to walk away]
Josephine : I'm never going to be coming back here again.
Sunflower : Oh.
Tree : Oh please, Josephine! Please come back!
Sunflower : Yes, please come back.
Josephine : Oh, I don't know. Maybe sometime, but I've got to go now.
