A Powerful Millennium Episode!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode titled "The Mikado" happens to be my number one favorite episode of the entire TV series. First telecast in February 1998 the storyline begins with three teenage boys cruising the internet looking for weird stuff to watch. When they witness what appears to be the murder of a young woman though at first believe that it is scripted and not a real homicide. The script is well written with crisp direction and one of Lance Henricksen's best performances as Frank Black. If you have not seen this one then you are in for a real treat especially if like me you are a fan of this show. And for crime drama buffs this episode was inspired by the real life Zodiac murders of the 1960's in the San Francisco Bay Area. Overall this is one powerful episode and one of the show's very best!

A tense and clever episode

This episode moves back from the 'x-files' direction of some previous S2 episodes - often involving mysteries, and to the original murderer theme.

Frank and Peter are investigating a murderer but this episode heavily features the use of the internet or streaming (as it were back in the late '90s). It's a clever episode that's been well thought out, and the clues as they unravel start to make sense; though not easy for the viewer to understand until Frank does. There's a great tension throughout this one and time isn't on Frank's side, there's also some moments that pertain to himself, his ability or restraint.

Overall this was a very good episode, and it kept my attention for every second. It also seems to be the original creator of the whole murder/crime strongly involving the internet. Many horrors later followed (Pulse, VHS, Unfriended etc).

It was nice

It was nice.

There were not unnatural things. It was a real human in my opinion. Without any para normal things.

It was avatar, from past but noone believed frank.

Nowadays, it is hard to change the location so fast but he managed it at that time.

Frank was again very brave to follow avatar, and so cold blooded; he did not shoot the person in the avatar custome. It was a trap but frank managed to survive.

I never thought frank was carrying gun. Never showed. Only at home, he took his gun once from some shelf, i dont remember for which case but it was in first season i think.

Again a case was closed without solving.

mind-blowing at the time

I haven't seen this episode in 20 years at least, but I remember it vividly. At the time (1998) the internet was in existence but it wasn't EVERYWHERE like it is now and the idea of a killer utilizing a countdown of sorts to execute someone was amazing. I remember thinking "is this even possible, how does someone add a counter to a webpage???" It prompted me to research HTML and try to understand it. I don't remember how it ended or what our hero Frank Black did or didn't do, I just remember how unbelievable it was that the internet, which up to that point I'd only used for ESPN, could be used like this. Why doesn't any streaming service put this show on? Every streaming service is littered with junk!

Probably better at the time.

Warning: Spoilers
The Mikado has been done exceedingly better in 2008's "Untraceable." The killer's thoughts and motives aren't present, with too much left unknown. Frank teams up with Peter, like last episode didn't exist. You would of though the three of these guys would be smart enough to see the trailer would be a setup.
