You're built like my husband ...you can wear his shirt.

Slim, Slim. Sometimes you are just too nice for your own good.

Slim agrees to help the widow get her ranch back on track ostensibly to help out the stage company which will, in turn, help Slim's relay station. But we all know that Slim agrees to help her because he's just a really good person. He runs into some trouble with her hired hands which result in his shirt being torn to shreds. I'm not sure how she, petite little woman that she was, was able to drag an unconscious Slim into the house, but a certain amount of suspension of realistic thought is necessary for so much of what comes out of Hollywood. In this case it's worth it because we get to see Slim stretched out, shirtless, on the floor in front of the fireplace. The widow hands him a shirt that used to belong to her husband and tells Slim she thinks it will fit because he's built like her husband. Her voice gets a little trembly and she's not able to finish her sentence; I don't think it's because she was thinking of her husband.

The episode ends well, justice is served, and Slim ends up with the shirt - which looks very nice on him. He should have worn dark colors more often!

The sheriff is a stalker
bkoganbing2 January 2018
Widow Sue England is having a lot of trouble holding on to her ranch which is also another relay station for the Overland Stage. Slim Sherman who works for them is sent to assess the situation.

It doesn't help matters that the widow's late husband is suspected of complicity in a holdup and the money is thought to be buried somewhere on the ranch.

Sheriff Richard Coogan is willing to help, but for a hefty price. He's so taken with England that he doesn't want to see her get on her feet. In fact he's hired some outlaws including Ben Johnson to sabotage the work as ranch hands until she has to turn for help from him. Basically he's a stalker and it upsets his plans that John Smith is staying to help straighten the ranch out.

This episode is a bit wacky with a few surprises coming your way before it is all over.

The sheriff, richard coogan at one time played captain video on a show of the same name from 1949 to 1950 ... in this episode he is looking for the stolen bank loot hidden by the husband of the ranch widow dawson, played by sue england ... ben johnson plays the bad guy in this one.

Sue England was a great guest star

Warning: Spoilers
Enjoyed the episode for the most part.

I've yet to sit down and watch it all the way through, so there's plot holes I don't follow - ex: Slim's friend, the undercover agent for the stage line... what happened to him after he and Slim talked in the cell?

As usual, Slim's a great friend who'll do everything he can to help, but it seems that he ended up with all the responsibility of finding out what was going on at the widow's ranch/relay station.

Know that Ben Johnson has played bad guys before (he was a really bad guy in a gunsmoke episode) but it still takes me aback...

On Sue England - never understood why she never "made it big" in Hollywood. Seen her in a lot of different genres of TV shows - Perry Mason, Hazel and so on.

She's been main characters for episodes with lots of dialogue to non speaking, "blink and you'll miss her" parts... just odd.

Maybe her real life was pleasant and took up a majority of her time and she acted when she felt like it - never wanted to be a big star. Don't know...

In this episode of Laramie, she was her usual likeable portrayal. Her character was one everyone liked and would try to help. Slim, the banker (think that's the character) and most of the town, even though her late husband was accused of robbery, it wasn't held against her and most felt bad about her likely losing the ranch - but the sheriff's "liking her" was way, way too much. He was obsessed - maybe to the point of being psychotic.

Bit of a spoiler -

Especially liked how Sue England played her character because at the end of the episode, her character was EVIL.

Wow... what a turn for the character.

Though Slim's dialogue on how he finally figured things out made sense afterwards, I didn't see it coming.

She was as vulnerable and sweet as could be - as she was throughout the episode prior to the reveal.

Her turn was all the way through - even physically. She was no longer pretty and sweet. Her face turned nasty and vicious like her true self.

Really seemed dire for Slim.

One of my favorite Slim focused episodes.
