Titled "a Crafts Woman Scorned" on the DVD
papabearEG8 November 2006
Hyacinth dejected by taking second place in a crafts fair tries to do one better than the first place winner. Bad enough to come in second to Lidia Hawksworth, but to know that it will be rubbed in her face is just too much. Of course Hyacinth felt that if she had won her natural modesty would have not allowed her to show off in such a way. On the way home from the craft show, Lidia passes Hyacinth and Richard in a new car. Richard fearing the worse attempts to keep their current car polished but Hyacinth can't be swayed. Hyacinth hatches a scheme to make Lidia Hawksworth think they own a Rolls Royce and convinces Richard to take one for a "test drive".

Poor Hyacinth. Funny episode.
Sleepin_Dragon5 September 2022
Having lost out to Lydia Hawksworth at a craft competition, and being overtaken by her in her brand new Jaguar, Hyacinth is desperate to get one over on her, she and Richard take a trip to a luxury car dealer.

It's definitely a funny watch, Hyacinth is once again in her oils, and doing what she does best, showing off, and trying to impress, only here she's trying harder, she's louder, brasher and far more ambitious. For someone like Hyacinth, A Rolls Royce would surely be the ultimate status symbol.

I liked Richard's frustrations, you could real feel his anxiety when looking at that car, and later driving in it.

There are a few funny moments, I can't say it's my favourite from this wonderful last series, but it's still great, I maybe just felt a little sorry for Mrs Bucket here.

7/10.

The Highlight of the 5th and final season

Warning: Spoilers
I consider this one of the best episodes of the entire series. All of the traits from each of the main characters is perfectly displayed...with Hyacinth suffering the ultimate in humiliation, in front of family and rivals alike.

You just knew when Hyacinth had Richard pull into the car dealership, something was going to happen. It was great that the writer used Rolls Royce for the comeuppance, the quintessential British symbol of class and style.

Rolls Royce

Warning: Spoilers
I haven't seen much of this episode of the beloved comedy show with Hyacinth Bucket yet it was worth it.

Starts off with the Hyacinth upset and annoyed being runner-up in a crafts fair against her arch rival Lydia Hawksworth (same surname to Emmet). Then Hyacinth gets further jealous of seeing her rival driving a new car. This gets Hyacinth to take matters in looking and getting a new yet more expensive car, which really worries Richard and we feel his anxiety. The ending in which Hyacinth and Richard are got in hot water is

As for the minor subplot, Father is keen to go to Africa even fantasizes seeing wildlife including monkeys and elephants.

As for trivia, this is second episode (after the hotel one) which doesn't have Elizabeth's brother Emmet again (despite he and actor David Griffin are listed in the ending credits).

Not quite jumping the shark, but sharks were gathering

Warning: Spoilers
This, the antepenultimate episode, demonstrates why it was for the best that Hyacinth and company did not return for a sixth series.

First, her rival in this episode is the heretofore-unknown Lydia Hawksworth. I guess Sonya Barker-Finch couldn't frustrate Hyacinth alone, but the name "Hawksworth" is not exactly a common name, but the fact that a one-off character shares a family name with two regulars (Emmett's surname; Elizabeth's maiden name) is just a little odd.

Stranger yet is Hyacinth's behavior in this episode. Yes, she's petty and narcissistic, but she would never steal a car. Richard is henpecked, but even he has limits, as seen in other episodes. Hyacinth forcing Richard to steal a Rolls Royce to impress someone who may or may not be related to their dearest friend is just not consistent with anything we have ever seen about the Buckets.

The remaining two are, while not the best episodes, are more entertaining than this, which is possibly the only episode in the entire run that I do not enjoy.

Time for the series to end.

It was a shame that this show was taken just too far during the 4th and 5th series. Patricia Routledge said she had to leave the series because she felt it was becoming too over-the-top and repetitive. This episode is exactly that. Hyacinth's eccentricities are just infuriating and Richard's (well...everyone's) putting up with it is just too much. Daisy, Rose, Onslo, Father and Onslo's dog saved the last two seasons.
