Danny and his girlfriends!
planktonrules16 January 2014
I have long been a fan of the original "Hawaii Five-O" and am the proud owner of all 12 seasons. And, after having reviewed every episode up to the middle of season 11, I have noticed something. When Danny gets a girlfriend, something BAD is about to happen!! She'll either become the target of killers, is a killer herself or is in some other trouble with the law. So, when Danny recognizes an old girlfriend down at the police station, it's not at all surprising that she's there because she just committed a crime! And, it's not surprising that she turns out to be the ex-girlfriend of a one-man crime spree! Unfortunately for Danny, he's slow on the uptake and she lies to him and uses him repeatedly. So, it's up to good old Steve to set Danny straight and work with him to get the old boyfriend and figure out what the lady's angle is in all of this.

This is a pretty interesting episode--even if Danny does seem, at times, like he's dumber than a goat. Plus, while the girlfriend angle isn't new, her motivation and the real story is. Worth seeing and better than the average season 11 episode (which, unfortunately, isn't saying all that much).

By the way, if you do see this one, note Moe Keale as the sleazy guy working in the pizza joint. In season 12 he'd begin playing a regular member of Five-O! This sort of thing wasn't without precedent, as earlier in the series, Al Harrington played scum-bags and later played a regular member of Five-O.

Danny Williams and the Prom Queen gone bad!
FloridaFred18 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Anybody who has come of age can relate to this story. You dated a girl in high school, years have gone by, you think of her from time to time, then by some incredible stroke of fate, you meet her again.

In this episode, Williams bumps into an old flame in the hallway of HPD. She is handcuffed, being booked for shoplifting. She explains to Danny that "it's all a mistake", so he posts her bail, gets her an apartment, and finds her a job waiting tables.

But we quickly realize that Danno is being played by this girl. For what reason?

A nice performance by Moe Keale as "Kimo". A great scene in McGarrett's office where Danny yells at him, "You fat pig!"

Missed opportunities by the producers: a pickup truck filled with clucking chickens parks next to a propane gas tank. What might happen next? Nothing, unfortunately.

The actor playing bad guy Roy Crawford is a real piece of work. He slaps hookers around, fires guns at his partners, then abandons his fellow criminals to make the getaway. You want him to go down, hard.

Pretty lame security for One Million Dollars displayed in a plexiglass box. In the Goofs section, two crew members are watching the Bronco crash into the front of the bank.

What does this woman "Michelle" see in Roy Crawford? Don't worry, you will soon find out.

Not a bad show, enough action and suspense, although there is a bit of overacting on the part of actress Katherine Cannon. And of course Danno is an emotional wreck (he should have been suspended for his behavior).

8 Stars for "A Long Time Ago".

Florida Fred.
