Inside Joke
zsenorsock3 September 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This entire episode is kind of a big inside joke as Eb is part of a Hooterville theater group that plans to put on a big play. They can't decide between Shakesphere or several other great playwrights, so they decide to put on "The Beverly Hillbillies" instead. Eb writes to Paul Henning, the executive producer creator of "BH" (and "Green Acres") and gets sent several "BH" scripts to choose from. Eb says he'll look through them to see if he can find "a funny one" then decides to "punch it up" himself.

On the night of dress rehearsal, Eb re-injures himself and Oliver has to replace him as Jethro, while Lisa stands in for Mrs. Ziffel as Granny.

Unfortunately way too much time on this episode is spent on Eb's original injury and not enough on the Hillbillies parody. The actual scene where Lisa and Oliver play parts (Mr. Kimball is Jed) is frustratingly short, though funny. You keep expecting the real Ellie May (Donna Douglas) or Drysdale to show up as a town person that "has a passing resemblance" to the real star. Funny, but you just wish they had done more with this idea.
