People have forgotten that this show was an important forerunner of today's "dramedy" series. Of course FKB, though often syrupy and sappy, is ART compared to today's mindless offerings.
This episode, although predictable, touches on the issue of teenage "popularity." Daughter Betty is feeling dowdy while the new girl at school is getting all the wolf-whistles. It turns out the new young lady is friendless, made all the worse since jealous Betty -- her student adviser -- is spurning her, too. This thorny HUMAN issue gets resolved neatly at the end, but it all comes down to Betty's character -- which she has in spades.
