Seth and Charlie track down the cowardly loser Jack McCall (Garret Dillahunt) and deliver him to the authorities. Seth returns to Deadwood a changed man after his fight with the Indian; Seth is now also sporting a permanent scar. Swearengen continues to pressure Farnum to pressure Alma into giving up her claim; Al realizes that Trixie and the widow have been pulling the wool over his eyes for too long. A teen-aged boy and girl (Greg Cipes, Kristen Bell) arrive in the camp in search of their missing father; in no time he's working at the Gem and she is working as a prostitute.
This particular episode is especially potent as we've seen the character of Trixie become more and more interesting. We can see that she's resigned herself to her lot in life and to whatever Al might decide to do with her.
It's also an excellent story when it comes to the idea of loss. Poor Charlie is filled in on the fate that befell his friend Wild Bill, and late in the episode he and Jane have a heartfelt vigil at Wild Bills' grave site.
'Bullock Returns to the Camp' serves as a great showcase for series regulars Timothy Olyphant & Molly Parker, as Seth tells her that he *would* like to keep working on her behalf (he likes to see a job through to the end), and Olyphant & Ian McShane, as Seth & Al have a major, pivotal confrontation where Seth lets the saloon keeper know in no uncertain terms that there will be Hell to pay if Al continues on his present course. But there are fine moments for all regulars and guest stars; we can see that the presence of these kids in town will lead to some intriguing developments.
