Very entertaining and several noticable faces

One of the more humorous eps of the series with the pluses of having several actors known in the 60-80s. Well worth the time. BTW, Mingo sings for about 30 secs at most. Whether Ames's voice is worth it I'll leave up to you.

Lazy (writing) river

Season 4 of "Daniel Boone" commences with Dan and Mingo heading back to Boonesborough with a season's load of furs, but they are waylaid and robbed by river pirate Joe Quaife. They attempt to enlist the aid of another river pirate, Joe Snag, to recover their cargo.

This season starts out with a comedic outing, bookended by two stalwarts of 1960's tv laughfests. Jovial raconteur Victor Buono (King Tut on "Batman") is Quaife, and Forrest Tucker (Sgt. Morgan on "F Troop") is Snag. Dan and Snag meet via a Robin Hood-Friar Tuck footbridge faceoff, and its pretty much slapstick from that point on. "Sidewinder" (Dan) and "Cherokee" (Mingo) persuade Snag's easily convinced crew they are outlaws on the make in order to insert them into the recovery caper.

Action here is fairly minimal aside from some stabs at frat-house boozing and brawling. NBC is again reaching back to the Mike Fink episode on Disney's "Davy Crockett," minus the expense of building a replica keelboat. Buono is used less than he could have been, perhaps the victim here of script-by-committee.

Also not much history presented here, either authentic, pseudo, alternative, or otherwise. A placid California stream stands in for the Ohio or Tennessee River. Tucker might have made a convincing mountain man in a serious frontier drama.

Likely a budget episode that received a money infusion for some guest stars; hopefully better story arcs to come in Season 4.
