Dr. Liz Park (Trisha Noble, "Star Wars: Episode III) is filling in for Eddie's normal pediatrician and makes a house call when he gets sick. A follow-up office visit checks him out as fine, a diagnosis Tom has also made for Liz, who he asks for a date. They talk and get to know one another with Tom asking if she regrets choosing her career. Liz: "No matter what you do, you always miss something. Life is a series of choices." She further states that she is soon giving up her practice to spend three years in Switzerland studying under an acclaimed pediatric surgeon. They feel they should keep that in mind as their romance blooms. Norman feels she is perfect for Tom and that he should talk her out of going. Tom knows he can't do that. In talking with Eddie, Liz says how nice it is to have a family. She only has an older brother. While walking with Tom, they stop at an overpass across the freeway (perhaps symbolism of crossroads) where she says she is torn in making a decision of her career vs. a family. She chooses, but a later incident makes her question her choice.
