Not the best season finale
owlaurence27 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
After everything that has happened during the season, this feels a bit like a letdown. It would have been better to end the season on one of the previous episodes, and use this one as an introduction to the next season -except for Piper's pregnancy, maybe.

The sad thing is that in itself the episode is rather good. The plot where the sisters have to choose between keeping or losing their powers is nicely done, and their arguments are sound. The only trouble is that the plot's outcome is obvious, as they would be no sequel if they gave up being witches. The witch-hunter story is not bad either, as it contains a few twists and reminds us of past events. But it's nowhere near good enough for a season finale. And I am still waiting to meet ONE man with magical powers who is not either dead or evil.

Then there is Cole's storyline. That one is GOOD and ominous (after seeing the wasteland, I am not sure I should use the word "cliffhanger" here). Once again we are reminded of Cole's two major traits : a) he is insanely in love with Phoebe b) he's nothing if not persistent. And once again he manages to make us feel a whole range of emotions within 45 minutes. Here I must say mention that I find Phoebe's attitude very unfair to him. He was not responsible for what happened, after all... although his next decision is definitely disastrous, and you know it will only cause trouble as soon as you see him make up his mind.

So at the end of the episode we're more or less back at our starting point, except that there is a good surprise for Piper and Leo -and here, might I add that their problem is solved a bit too quickly and easily ?

The Second Best Season Finale.
Jonny-ironica19 April 2009
Warning: Spoilers
While "All Hell Breaks Loose" was a phenomenal cliffhanger, it's not how you want to see a show end. However, in my heart, this is where the real show ended. Season 4 managed to pull off something I doubted, creating a story involving a long-lost sister and it actually fitting into the show's history.

After a season of coping with the death of Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige have vanquished The Source of All Evil (twice) and are offered the chance to get rid of their powers and live normal lives (Piper's dream come true). An Angel of Destiny gives them 24 hours to consider the proposal and a subplot ensues which leads Phoebe to believe that she couldn't live without her powers. Paige, new to being a witch, is likely to side with her. And Piper? Well majority rules, so screw her future of having the life she always wanted, once again Phoebe calls the shots.

But it ends with the confirmation that Piper is pregnant, something she never thought could happen with their busy demon-fighting lives. What more could you ask for? All of the loose ends are tied up, they've fulfilled their destiny and even though they decide to keep their powers, Piper's pregnancy gives hope that things will be less hectic in the future.

If you follow Charmed's background, you'll understand that this is the last season where Constance M. Burge worked on the show and was able to provide some creative input.

Following this season, the show gets increasingly silly, self-contradicting and just downright irritating. So unless you're going to watch seasons 5-8 for the lovely Holly Marie Combs as I did, end it here. Otherwise, like a majority of Charmed fans, you'll grow annoyed with it.

To Find a Lost Love and a Witch Hunter
claudio_carvalho28 July 2007
While Phoebe feels Cole trying to contact her, the Angel of Destiny comes to the Halliwell manor and proposes to remove the powers of the sisters as a reward for vanquishing The Source. Meanwhile, the FBI agent Jackman bugs the manor and discloses that he knows that the sisters are witches. He proposes to eliminate the evidences if the sisters find a witch hunter that is killing witches. Phoebe casts a spell to meet Cole in a demon limbo.

In this predictable episode, the sisters are lured by an evil witch hunter, they do not accept to lose their magic powers, and most important, Cole is back as a demon and Piper is pregnant. In the end, there is nothing special in the last episode of the Fourth Season. My vote is six.

Normal Again
Realrockerhalloween16 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Witch way now was a phenomenal finale where the sisters are visited by the Angel of Destiny for vanquishing the demonic council and fulfilling their destinies earlier then expected they will have a chance to be live their lives as normal women again. Meanwhile they get caught up in Cole trying to contact Phoebe from the wastelands and a witch Hunter determined on exposing them unless they agree to his terms. The Angel of Destiny's reward systems seems like a great way to motivate the greater good to fight on and gives hope to witches they can one day lead a demon free life. Piper wanting to have kids, quite the fighting and the losses they have taken over four years seems reasonable as it does consumes one's life. Witches having kids in such a dangerous world always seemed selfish to me where they constantly in danger and never know a normal childhood.

Bruce Campbell was brilliant as Agent Jackmen who has a history with magical creatures dating back to Salem, his plans to capture his prey is devilishly manipulative and juicy as he makes the girls capture another witch for him. The only thing that bothers me is Cole coming back at the end to finish him off instead of the sisters coming up with a plan themselves and ruins the perfectly tragic ending to Phoebe & Cole's love story. In fact I wished he had never returned since I know what his character goes through and this way the fans along with Phoebe can remember him fondly. Instead of a nutcase deluxe mechanism who ruins a great finale and leaves a lot of questions unanswered like the investigation into the agent's murder.
