This was a nice, heartwarming story. It's unrealistic, of course, but so are all the stories. It gives us great insight on what nice guys officers "Gunther Toody" (Joe E. Ross) and "Francis Muldoon" (Fred Gwynne) are in the 53rd precinct.
We learn how they help all the residents, from delivering babies (!), giving rides to those who need it, to.....well, lots of things. And that is why there are no major crimes in the area the boys cover. The shop owners take care of business and let their beloved Toody and Muldoon spend time doing what they do best - which isn't normal police work!
Note: Gerald Hiken, a cousin of the writer of this show, Nat Hiken, plays "Katz The Butcher" in this episode.
