I always thought that in the first series. The first episode was too slow.
This is remedied in the second series. Part 1 has some momentum to it and Campion has a team. Apart from Lugg, he is joined by old friends Guffy Randall and Eager-Wright.
It is all to do with a tiny Balkan state of Averna. It has suddenly acquired a natural harbour after an earthquake and maybe oil rich.
A small aristocratic family, the Fittons from the small Suffolk village hold a claim to Averna. Campion decides to assist them with the claim. However there is a treasure hunt for the proof to the title and riddles to solve.
An unscrupulous businessman is also on the hunt and a thug has already attacked the aunt of the Fitton siblings.
There is a bit of scene stealing from Richard Pearson as a strange doctor and Iain Cuthbertson as the wealthy tycoon who wants to send Campion to Peru to mount a revolution.
Lysette Anthony as a prominent role as Amanda Fitton who seems to have taken a liking to Campion.
