Race Against Time and Evil Doers

Warning: Spoilers
A woman is poisoned with a soon to be fatal dose of a radioactive isotope used to kill cancer cells, but an overdose amount is secretly given to kill her instead. With the woman dying within a week, the CSI team looks for her killer. Wrapped into the story are the facts involving waste contamination by the company manufacturing the same isotope, a huge class-action suit against this company being built by the environmental-attorney victim with an employee helping to build the case, the victim unwilling to give up her insider source and the company CEO not cooperating with the police. The episode is worth watching for a number of reasons, one is the victim is well-played and the evidence is sufficient to circumvent the lack of cooperation to go get the killer and the company. The crew reaches a certain conclusion about the victim that Horatio does not accept and he leads them to the killer of the already dead junkie seen at opening and the attorney dying in front of our eyes. There is not the other case going on simultaneously, splitting the CSI's into separate teams, but a cooperative effort to win against the evil perpetrated on the living victim. The interaction between Horatio and the woman make the story move along and offer compassion, too. Recommend a watch to see the story work itself through, much like similar plots over the years where the main character has a short time to live and is trying to help solve the crime. In this case, the excellent police work captures the evil ones in the end.

Well done story on a reoccuring theme

The idea of a "Dead man/woman Walking" has been done many times ... see NCIS for example. The chemistry between David Caruso's Caine and Karen Sillas, our victim is what holds the viewers attention. The characters immdiate respect for each other makes the sadness of the her predicament heartbreaking.

The pace of the show does feel sped up, with all of the evidence coming through faster even by TV standards. But, since the victim has only five days to live, that's to be expected.

The show does try to counter all of this with specks of comedy, especially from Adam Baldwins', Radiaiton Man, and it does work.

Final result: even though the story has been told many times, this one is well worth the watch.
