When a decomposed corpse is found in the desert with the face blown away and a hole in the chest, Grissom, Catherine, Nick Warrick and Capt. Brass investigate the case. Soon Nick finds a beaver dam built with many 100 and 50 dollar-bills, and they bring the dam to the laboratory. Based on a ring that the victim is wearing, they suspect that he is a former football player named Gabe Miller. However, he is alive and tells to Brass that the ring belonged to him many years ago, but he had sold to used drugs and to bet before he was saved by Jesus Christ. Now their investigation is focused on the money bands that came from gambling. Meanwhile, Grissom, Greg, Sara and Det. Louis Vartann investigate the death of Maurice Hudson, who was found dead in his hotel room. Dr. Robbins in the autopsy finds that Maurice died from compression asphyxia and that there was something on the top of him for eight to ten hours. When they learn that there is a convention of the "Association to Promote Acceptance of Plus-Size People", they investigate the women in the convention.
"Big Middle" is another episode of "CSI" divided in two segments. The lead one is hard to understand the gambling procedure explained by Warrick and how Vegas Sports Line (VSL) works. The rest is the usual top-notch investigation of the forensic scientists. The death of Maurice Hudson is tragically funny. Poor Greg representing the victim. My vote is seven.
