Nicely Constructed

Quite a unique sequencing of events. We start off with a violent collision on a side street. Now we are brought back a few hours and have a new plot line, but it is connected to the accident. This is done two more times. It is mindful of the series called "Connections" where seemingly random things lead to a surprising conclusion. Each case is interesting and subtly moves the plot forward.

Busy Night

When a Hummer in the wrong way runs over an old Fiero, Grissom meets Capt. Brass to investigate the scene. He learns that the Hummer's driver has fled and the Fiero's driver is alive in the hospital. At a car convention, when the host Mr. Daluca opens the curtains to show the latest RV model to the audience, there is a dead woman. Warrick and Det. Louis Vartann learn that the victim is the twenty-nine-year-old model Lisa Schumacher. Dr. Robbins tells Catherine that Lisa was asphyxiated and she had sex before her death. Daluca becomes their prime suspect. Meanwhile, the model Gwen that is working at the convention, goes to the house of her personal trainer Paul Charles to workout and sees him dead through the window. Greg and Sara investigate the crime scene while Dr. Robbins carries out the autopsy. When he sees a black substance in his eye, Hazmat takes Sara and Greg to the decontamination shower. When the body of a boy is found on a bus stop bench covered by a blanket in front of a laundromat, Nick investigates the case. Dr. Robbins tells Nick that the cause of death was asphyxia from heat damage. They identify the victim is Chase Ryan and Nick tries to understand what might have happened to the boy.

"4 x 4" is an episode of "CSI" with four simultaneous cases, three of them somehow entwined. The cases are well-resolved by the team in a very busy night of the investigators. The most interesting is Nick's investigation of the death of a twelve-year-old boy. My vote is seven.

Series of crimes

The entire CSI team is busy responding to a variety of crime scenes. "4x4" is directed in a truly unique method, showing how a series of crimes flashback and connect to another. It is interesting to see the subtle ways each of the previous crimes lace into each other as CSI's talk among each other. Sometimes you watch the investigators make comments and wonder, "What is that about?" This episode does that by letting you see what led up to that comment, then you might see another view of that same comment in another scene. Well worth watching if you get the chance. This was like getting 4 mini episodes (4x4 to RV to mold to bench) for the price of one.
