The Silver Platters
Jimmy_the_Gent415 August 2020
The kids get an engraved silver platter for Mike and Carol's anniversary but Jan get mixed up on the price of the engraving.

A very entertaining episode, another great one for Season Four. Jan decides to raise the money for the engraving by appearing on a TV talent show. They get to sing two songs, "Sunshine Day" a flower power type song for the audition. And "Keep On" which sounds like an imitation Beach Boys song about a car. Bobby and Cindy have a funny encounter with a bank manager when they try to get a loan.

WHY WE LOVE THE SILVER PLATTERS!
tcchelsey26 November 2023
This is the epitome of 70s BRADY BUNCH. This is it. The gang gets on tv to sing and strut their stuff, what all us kids of the 70s tuned into see. And are still watching.

It all starts with an expensive silver platter anniversary gift the guys get Mike and Carol. One problem. The engraving is extra and cost mucho bucks. It's 85 cents a letter, which would be about 6.00 dollars a letter today. Also consider, the minimum wage in 1973 was about $1.60 an hour! Jan does her best negotiating with the engraving guy, but it all goes south.

To get the cash they go on tv, singing as the Silver Platters --and the rest is history. To be defined accurately, it's campy fun. Steve Dunne makes another appearance on the show, this time as the tv host. Steve was a popular actor in the 40s and 50s, later a Hollywood DJ and announcer.

I agree with the last reviewer, the "Keep On" song is (kind of) Beach Boys, but "Sunshine Day" went on to become a famous song, and in many tv commercials. You always hear it somewhere. And don't miss the cool 70s threads. The series had some great wardrobe people, you have to admit.

Alice's best line... "I'll never watch that CROOKED channel!"

A real deal gem, well directed. From SEASON 4 remastered ABC/Paramount dvd box set.
