Getting a Lothario wed

Not sure if Noah Beery's character of Lothario Larkin was born with that monniker or it is a nickname. But it sure fits him as he 's romanced every eligible young female in the Virginia City area and has their father's out looking for him with shotguns.

Noah Beery, Jr. plays Larkin and he confesses that he was jilted once and now jilts the entire female species. So his good friend Dan Blocker seeks to remedy the situation and he discovers that the woman who did the jilting is working in a saloon. The only problem is that Dorothy Green is living without benefit of clergy with gambler Jim Davis. No legal complications but Davis is a rough customer.

Nice humorous episode with Hoss Cartwright as Cupid.

Dirty old man visits Virginia City

I have no idea if people could call this a romantic storyline or not. I really don't. I'd place this on a level of the end of a Bette Davis movie I saw years ago. Bette's character was really pretty and young looking until she got sick and her looks supposedly deteriorated. People act like she looked like the crypt keeper. Claude Raines character had lost his eyesight and I came away from the movie with the ideal of 'You need me to be your eyes and thankfully your eyesight is so bad that your hair won't stand on end from the shock of seeing my looks fall into the gutter. Guess we're both settling, eh?'

I suppose it might be a twist to see somebody become a dirty old man because the one they love is no longer in the picture. Must admit I'd be used to storylines that show a character shutting themselves off. Don't want anybody if I can't have this person I love the most.

Can we please not have Joe talking about this dirty old man's score card for scores? Joe, you get around yourself for your age. You might be looking into your future when you see this guy getting around...

But this guy's got the town all in a tizzy. I have no idea why the women are into him. And it's not just the saloon girls either.

I also want to explain why I keep on saying dirty old man. I think of an episode coming up that featured religious fanatics and some of the reviews called Ben a dirty old man because the young lady in this episode was getting close to him. I'd never call a gentleman a dirty old man. There was another episode that featured a young lady falling for Ben and Ben pulled out the 'I'm old enough to be your father!' card. I could see why that young lady fell for such a kind man. It doesn't have anything to do with having daddy issues or whatever. It absolutely boils down to the character of the person imo. I won't call Ben a dirty old man but I didn't really see where this Lothario had much of anything going for him besides being a horn dog. He wasn't a mean character or I'd be even more puzzled by why women are two steps away at fainting at his feet.

I did like two parts to this episode. Sheriff Coffee was hilarious in ordering everybody to the jail after a ruckus broke out. You know where it's at.

I loved one of the lady's pronouncing guitar. Lothario had walked off with Adam's guitar so that's why he had one. I love 'Showgirls' (movie with Elizabeth Berkeley) and her pronunciation for Versace had stuck with me to the point I mispronounce it the way Nomi does in the movie. I got a kick out of hearing the character's hick way of saying guitar.

Sadly the imdb credits are correct. All of us Adam fans will just have to settle for his smoldering look in the opening credits if you want any kind of Pernell/Adam fix. ;)
