One of the greatest bits of continual writing ever.

Imagine being a writer and creating a show where in the first season you leave a ton of hints building up to an ultimate climax in season three, because you had everything so well though out. Such writing is almost unheard of even in today's TV shows. Now a days you have writers who go just make things up as the show goes along, coming up with something new season by season, but Babylon 5 knew what it was from season 1 all the way to season 4. This is why Babylon 5 will always be remembered for being far ahead of it's time. This is story continuity done right!

This is where the show crosses the line.

Up until this and the previous episode, it could be argued the Babylon 5 was just another television show. Sure, it had some long arcs and better than average writing, but prior to these two episodes it remained within the pantheon of the ordinary. Here, it vaults into an entirely different realm where few other shows have gone. It's like that brilliant moment at the end of "Being There" where suddenly everything that seemed perhaps somewhat unrelated or unfocused snaps into clarity, and it is the mark of an excellent script when this happens. These two episodes become a lens by which the rest of the series is sharpened, honed, and eventually produces one of the greatest stories told in the medium and perhaps in the top twenty-five of all mediums.

The writing of Babylon 5 is so amazing that only on a second or third rewatch you start to see the whole picture... I don't want to spoil anything for new watchers, but this is one of these episodes when your jaw drops...

What an ending. Still having a little difficulty wrapping my mind around some of the things that occurred, but one thing I can say with certainty... THEY DID TIME TRAVEL RIGHT! Sure some of the characters still mention that they could somehow alter events (I don't believe in this concept), but all of the loops seem to close nicely here. Excellent!
