One of the best from Season Eight

As this episode proves, not all the color episodes were sub par. Off all the newer characters, Howard Sprague came closest to creating the original chemistry that existed between Andy and Barney. The story is character driven which seems to be one of the qualities that fans of "The Andy Griffith Show" find appealing. Millie and Howard abruptly decide to get married and include Andy and Helen as their best man and maid of honor. The ensuing train ride to Millie's homestead in West Virgina for the wedding provides the setting for the deft combination of comedy and drama that was always a hallmark of this series. The subtle scene in the dining car is classic Mayberry.

Howard lived with his mother his whole life. He was fee to do whatever boring thing he wished. His interests moved to the mundane. He gets a kick out of things most of us couldn't care less about. Then we have the bubbly Millie who is virtually out to lunch, in love with love, but not very practical. Well, an interesting thing happens on the train to Wheeling.

Goober knew it wouldn't work?

Howard (Jack Dodson) is dry as dust, thrifty, unspontaneous, and boring as they come. Did pretty Millie (Arlene Galonka) expect him to all of a sudden do a 180 and be a different man? I think Howard realized even though Millie has wonderful qualities life with her wouldn't be a bowl of cherries. He must of felt saved from impending doom. Millie was a beast in the morning before her coffee. Howard needed to find a wife with traits closer to his. Very bizarre and unrealistic how little they really knew about each other. Were Andy & Helen that close to Howard & Millie to be imposed on with the trip and problem dumping. Train compartments and walkways seemed way too large and wide for a train. Liked the bland generic actors to play Millie's family. Andy was funny uncomfortable with his Wheeling weather talk. Not the funniest but a very memorable episode. A few times we see Jack Dodson's shocked facial expressions and reactions he'd use in future movies and tv shows.
