Warning: Spoilers
For a town with an honest reputation, the characters habitually lie and deceive each week. Every time a girl walks by Andy, he lies to Helen about it and gets in deeper trouble. Here, we see Goober lying about his chain of gas stations up the Eastern seaboard all to impress that idiot, Roy(the actor went on to produce some quality shows of the 70s, 80s, and 90s). He ends up blowing a wad of money only to discover Roy is still a grease monkey. Meanwhile, Goob sulks in the car like a baby. But, he shows himself to be the bigger man by not acting like old Roy. I have to question the ending of this episode. Why is a grown man, nearly 40, walking around blowing on a whistle?

Goober Trying to Impress
Hitchcoc11 January 2020
Goober makes the mistake of calling an old buddy while he is attending an auto show in Raleigh. Goober thinks he has passed this guy in impressiveness. When they meet, the guy says he is an executive with an engineering degree. Once again, pride gets in the way of common sense and what is really important in life.

Good vs. evil

Always was very fond of this episode. With friends like Roy Swanson (Noam Pitlik) who needs enemies? Belittles Goober while buddying up to him patting the dope on the back. Great Goober scenes in the hotel showing he could have sticky fingers, insulting Andy's suit, getting nails done by the feisty Raleigh Pd receptionist (Patty Regan). Whole restuarant scene is funny. Unsophisticated Goober's lack of champagne knowledge, Andy & Bee trying to prop up the charade soon to collapse. Opie spilling the beans is the biggest laugh. Always good to see the episodes outside the usual enviorment as here where unpolished Goober is like a fish out of water. Bizarre epilogue with Goober blowing a kazoo.

Another Goof!

In the closing scene of the episode at the gas station, a 'Coors' delivery truck can be seen passing in the background.

This not Raleigh! It's not even North Carolina! (Though we all know that the Andy Griffith show was shot at Desi-Lu; and later at Paramount, as this episode was.) We couldn't be in the Southeast U.S.! Coors didn't get national distribution until 1986. Which is why, in the 1970s, Coors wasn't actually licensed to sell east of the Mississippi, making it, briefly, a rare and sought-after product. Ha! An innocent but interesting discontinuity!

Sorry, Sheriff Taylor! Haul them bootleggers in!
