Farewell Shirley Holmes
hellraiser75 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Warning don't read unless seen episode.

This is my fifth favorite episode of the show. This shouldn't have been the end but it couldn't be helped. Even if they weren't going to have another season, they should of at least had a tv movie or even silver screen film if possible, it would have given the show a proper conclusion and it would have been one last hurrah for Sherley Holmes. Sadly, that didn't happen, only the realm of Fanfiction can fill this gap or even continue the series on.

But still this episode was very good all the same it's in my book one of my favorite series finales, because it does one important thing right it actually goes out strong.

I really like the plotline which I think is cool, it sort of feels like a "Batman" plotline as this feels like the kind of game "The Riddler" would play with him. The Wizard Daryl and the cult Sherley and Bo face are worthy opponents as their gamers that want to play for keeps. I even like how the wizard and his cult their motives or at least the leader's motives are enigmatic, we're not sure why their playing games with Bo's life, it's like they're just doing it either out of sick amusement.

What I like about this is the stakes are truly high, as we see losing is clearly not an option, the results in losing or not playing are dire and actually plausible by today's standards when you think about the kinds of cybercrimes, we have every day.

This to me also gives the episode and plot a mature feel, it really had a different feel to it, Shirley and Bo have been in danger before but the threat level this time is high and here both could die. This also really felt like the show was taking the next step in that direction where in the next season things were going to get darker and more dangerous.

This episode in a way is almost Bo's episode which makes sense as this is the final episode for his character. Really liked seeing how he holds his own against danger and exercises aggression and some wit, it shows how far he has truly come over the years, though maybe not perfect as he still not very smooth and on the same level of intelligence and sharp wit as Shirley, but still good enough all the same to get the job done. In a way this episode is about the student coming into his or her own. Bo throughout the show has always been the assistant detective for Shirley, but now we see Bo is finally standing on his own two feet and has become his own hero.

Really liked seeing both Shirley and Bo doing their thing, as we see Bo is playing the wizard's game, but Shirley is investigating from behind. There is some really good intrigue as we are asking all of the same questions as Shirley, "why is Bo the target?", "who's the identity of the wizard", and "what do each of those keys open?"; from how things are going it's all adding up to something but we don't know what. Also, it's suspenseful as the wizard and his cult are forcing them to play their game and we're hoping somehow they'll be able to play their own to beat them.

One highlight is seeing Bo getting the second key and getting out of a sticky situation. He's been in sticky situations before in the show but this time we see him get out on his own, which I thought was cool.

But also another highlight was seeing Bo rescuing Shirley, as we see unfortunately the Wizard catches on the Shirley's investigation of him and kidnaps her putting her in sort of a "MacGyver" like situation as we see she is trapped in some sort of boiler room and it's up to Bo alone to figure out the whole shebang as well as for both of them to get out before it's game over.

Bo and Shirley beat the Wizard's game but of course he and his cult get away. This seemed to be a set up for a revolving plot for next season, because not just did the cult leader Daryl but we haven't identified the other three in the cult, as each of the members represent each initial letter in the name Wizard and we we're able to uncover three of them. It really did leave room for a follow up sequel as Daryl and the rest of his cult aren't done playing games especially with Shirley.

Unfortunately, Bo won't be able to play again with Shirley as his days are officially over. The final moments were really touching, it really clenches my heart a little as this isn't just us saying goodbye to Bo, but it really felt like we were also saying goodbye to Shirley as this truly was the end for the show.

Really love the last moment when Shirley gives Bo a copy of her journal as it was not just something to remember her by, but it signified that he is now a detective. And in the last moment we see she has another journal of her own, which shows that she will continue her detective work but also that it's time for both to go their separate ways as both are needed elsewhere.

So, farewell to Bo but also farewell to Shirley, just like any of the legendary detectives from the past, present, and the many more to come you'll never be forgotten, because you legacy will live on forever; so farewell Shirley Holmes.
