Animated Banana Splits
rosscinema24 July 2009
I just watched this on the Boomerang channel and while I did enjoy this enough to recommend, it just wasn't the same. First, the costumes looked different and I had to think that the original suits that were worn was probably thrown out and new ones had to be made. Secondly, the voice of Allan Melvin (Drooper) disappears for about 15 minutes later in the show and you can't help but notice the new voice which sounds completely different! I really wonder what was going on during the making of this. I loved the Banana Splits as a kid and I did enjoy this, but it's obvious that this effort wasn't well thought out and appears like it was rushed onto the air.

Something Odd Is Going On With The Voices...
elgrego991 June 2010
After reading about "The Banana Splits In Hocus Pocus Park" for years, today I finally got to see it, on the Boomerang channel.

The one thing that I noticed most was that the voices of several of the characters kept changing during the show.

The ones that I noticed changing were Drooper, Hocus, and Pocus.

Allan Melvin normally supplied the voice of Drooper, but there are quite a few lines in this program that are definitely not him, but someone doing an impression of him.

The same is true for Howard Morris, who provided the voice of Hocus. There are quite a few scenes in which someone else (I think it sounds like Don Messick) is doing an impression of Howard Morris' character called Hocus.

IMDb.com says that Howard Morris also provided the voice of Pocus, but I can't tell it it's him or not. But in any case, there are two different guys providing the voice of this one character during the program also.

I wonder if there was a problem with the voice recording, and some of the lines had to be re-done, but the original talent couldn't be found in time? I don't know.

Speaking as a fan of these voice artists, I find it fascinating that these characters were voiced by more than "just one guy" during the one-hour program.

A Good TV Movie
jeremycrimsonfox23 September 2019
The Banana Spliots in Hocus Pocus Park is a great TV movie that aired on ABC in the 1970's. Here, the Banana Splits are at King's Island trying to do tours of the park before they give a concert, but when they get a customer, a girl named Susie, when they starts giving the tour for free. However, in another world, a witch sees Susie and wants to turn her into a witch, so she uses a balloon to lure her into the Forbidden Forest, a world that is entered via a billboard. The Splits follow, ending up in a cartoon world on the other side of the billboard, and now begin a quest to rescue Susie and get home in time for their concert.

This is a good Banana Splits movie, even better than the more recent horror film made to beat Five Nights At Freddy's out the door. The Banana Splits do look different when they become cartoons, but it is a fresh take on them. The cartoon is the timeless Hanna-Barbera formula for slapstick comedy, and the live action scenes have the Splits riding the rides and such. This is a classic worth watching

Say no to the Splits

The Banana Splits are creepy. They are scary. There is a horror film about them, but that's not the point. The Banana Splits are freaky monsters.
