A nicely animated comedy over nothing
bob the moo20 June 2005
A woman heads down to Vera Lassoo's hair salon in the belief that a nice new haircut will give her a change and cheer her up. However getting to the salon she discovers that the staff are not as great as she would have hoped and that she may not end up with the haircut of her dreams. Taking its frame of reference as the woman's belief that little material things will matter, this short film plays out a frequent drama – a woman being unhappy due to her haircut.

The drama is not small in the mind of the character, which is a fair point to those of us in the know (or with experience) about when such things go wrong. The film plays it out well but is clear that the woman shouldn't put such stock in such things. The characters are well drawn, from the shy woman to the long and white-trash hairdresser (lets be honest here!) and the short film is simple but effective. The animation is basic and is the usual style from Guard; it works well though and avoids clutter in the visual and hence the story. Not screened that often and not worth paying a lot of money to get but this short is also available on the internet and is well worth a quick look.
