Okay but the men are ridiculously infanitle
valkyrie-7057917 August 2020
Seriously they need to get a grip on their emotions. They throw things and scream in anger, they sob hysterically when things make them sad, it's like they have no emotional control at all. Stalking women seems to be considered the height of romance. The kind of pursuing behavior they display would be considered a crime in most US states. And the spoiled little kid is very annoying but you can tell that the series, like his family, think he's adorable. I want to shake him. :)

The main reason I reviewed this is because I cannot understand the little blurb on what it is about. I have watched the whole thing and the 'secret marriage' etc makes no sense. That is not what this series is about and I don't see a secret marriage anywhere in it. I think someone confused a different series with this one. Someone who has the admin rights should change it to something more appropriate to the series.

too much repetition (may contain spoilers)
dkmr-8829310 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This review might contain spoilers. I found that it had too many long, slow flashbacks with boring music. Many of these could have been eliminated. Also I got bored at times. The lead actress, Hanzade, seems to be on drugs most of the time...she is so blank and emotionless. a puppet led by whoever manipulated her last. The mother's voice was painful and grating. All in all, I thought the story dragged on far too long. But I did watch to the conclusion, if that is what it was. I give it a C- or a D+.

Too much crying
jleeharris-3699120 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Two brothers in their 40s still live at home with their mother and father who control every move they make. One of their wives is being stalked by a violent psycho that she was raised with in an orphanage There is a lot of crying. fainting, dying, stupid decisions and contrived ridiculous situations. Everyone hides very important facts from everyone causing life threatening circumstances. Calm down, get some air and drink some tea is advice in every dire situation Turkish tv portrays women as overly emotional, conniving shrews. The men are constantly singing, hugging each other and crying when they're not knocking their wives around. Main characters are regularly killed off, so don't get too attached. This could have been really good. The acting is very good, except for the over emotional drama at times.

Waste of time!!
ccline-5171413 January 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Ok I know I'm watching fiction drama and expect to be taken away with story, but this one not only has every cliche in a soap opera but added a few with laughable results. Lead female, Hanzade, has no backbone at all, whiney little woman waiting for a cheating, abusive husband . Oh my God, has to be a male writer! Do Turkish women really act this way? Mother is cliche evil but does anyone leave family mansion? No, is course not. disliked 4 main leads, haven't finished but from other reviews doesn't get better! I'll fast forward through it so I can irritate myself more.

Bad cast! They can't act!
kristy-2137416 July 2020
I've enjoyed Turkish dramas before but this is nowhere near good. The characters are not believable and the people just don't know how to act! (wonder how they got through the auditions!) It's like they're reading the script as they go! The storylines might be plausible but if misery after misery is all what a family goes through then it becomes dead boring! I'm just wondering if there's going to be a dramatic payoff that's worthy! I care about the characters Hanzade and Galip but Galip should just make up his mind like a man where his wife and lover are concerned!

Sometimes interesting but strains credulity
nannigoat-6989711 November 2020
I watched all 105 episodes. The series is about obsessive relationships, not uniting 2 families. The over-acting, especially by the matriarch, Esmanur, is occasionally grating, and I hope Hanzade kept herself well-hydrated while producing buckets of tears. The male leads were wooden and appallingly violent toward women. The villain, Semih, was actually the most interesting character, and the best-acted. It's always interesting to travel to Turkey via these series, to see the topography, weddings and funerals, architecture, etc. I still love Turkish dramas and will watch more, but this is definitely my least favorite.

I love Turkish dramas
eyeamdust10 January 2021
Ice watched quite a few Turkish dramas and I'm well on my way with Burned Cocoon. For one thing the Turkish actors are incredibly beautiful. I think because the TV series are so long one gets very familiar with the characters. I get obsessed and every evening I watch at least 2 or 3 episodes. Because we have so long to get to know the characters it's easy to get involved in their lives. Some people think that the acting is not good in Burned Cocoon but I disagree. Some critics think that they don't like the way the male characters treat female characters. If that's the case then one should watch movies from other countries. If you don't want to see a true characterization then don't watch foreign films. I don't want to see a film where false ideas of culture are given. I love the romance and the passion. I love that we get to see the architecture and the landscape. When I'm involved with a Turkish drama I never want them to end. Burned Cocoon is no exception.

*** SPOILER ALERT ***
sbrooks10324 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The grandmother apparently knows the "Godfather," who will do anything for her, including killing the villain, but never goes to him until late, makes a deal but never tells her son, and never explains to the Godfather when her son unknowingly violates it. The bad guy seems to get around at will, with numerous safe houses, even though he's a wanted man. The "good" bad guy apparently never seeks info from the Godfather. I could go on, but it is a bit of a guilty pleasure!

I don't know why Netflix doesn't have the few Season 2 and 3 episodes listed here.

Old fashioned romance
lucivaleper13 April 2021
I binge watched this series and became increasingly moved by the storyline and the actors. Contrary to what some "American" reviews have lamented, I found the romantic interactions between the characters intense, culturally relevant and well done. It reminded me of my childhood European idea of romance where discreet looks, small gestures and the power of touch were electrifying, unlike Hollywoodian movies where sexual obsessiveness is so perverse and explicit and that you wonder what level they will have to take it to next to elicit viewer response.

I did find the the storyline of Semih was a bit exaggerated but maniacs are called such for a reason.

I really enjoyed learning about some of the customs and places in Turkey. I'm hooked on Turkish Drama. America is not the be all and end all when it comes to acting nor I feel is it the beacon of world culture and tradition that others should measure their own from. Thank you to all who were involved in this series. I respect and appreciate your work.

Extreme drama but different and interesting
corballycottage2 February 2021
I loved parts of this show. It was a complex plot with lots of twists and turns. Semih the bad guy was completely delusional about Hanzade which made some of the storylines comical. I really liked the last episode it was beautiful ending.

Interesting in parts
joshinita14 June 2021
It's seriously long with lots of irrelevant additions which can be fast forwarded.

Found it hilarious cause people in this drama are more horizontal (read in hospitals) than vertical !
